What’s In The Box? January 12-18

Healthy Start
Happy New Year! Get 2017 off to a fresh start with this week’s lineup, which features a comforting soup crafted from organic winter vegetables simmered in our own chicken stock, plus nutty whole-grain bread and fresh produce including Acorn squash, yellow Chantenay carrots and golden beets. Coupled with a Guatemalan chocolate bar, Grana-style cheese and farm-fresh eggs from our flock of heritage breed hens, this beautiful winter menu is both richly flavorful and resolution friendly.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Winter Vegetable Soup

Our signature vegetable soup is packed with gorgeous farm-grown kale, onions and carrots, plus flavorful cabbage, spinach, cauliflower and legumes. Simmered in our housemade chicken stock for added richness and flavor, this hearty entrée is wonderful served with sliced multi-grain bread.

Whole-Grain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour, seven different whole grains and a hint of honey, then topped with toasted sunflower seeds.

Yalumba Organic Shiraz 2012

This smooth and supple wine is crafted from the robust Syrah grapes grown in Southern Australia. Fruit-driven with a medium-bodied finish, it features notes of fresh liquorice and lingering plums and will pair beautifully with this week’s soup.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time snug in their coop during the cold, blustery winter months, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Grana-Style Cheese

Made in our farmstead creamery, this Grana-style treat is crafted from part-skim cow’s milk to allow for longer aging of 24 months or more. Wonderful grated over soup, the hard, drum-shaped cheese is turned and rubbed with olive oil during aging to create a smooth, golden rind.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Acorn squash, yellow onions, yellow Chantenay carrots, cauliflower, golden beets, fingerling potatoes, parsnips and Savoy cabbage, plus juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Lacinato kale and peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh parsley, shallots, garlic and thyme.

Dick Taylor Guatemala Lanquín Chocolate Bar

Made ‘bean-to-bar’ in Dick Taylor’s small Northern California factory, this sublime bar is crafted from cacao beans grown on a single estate in the Alta Verapáz region of Guatemala.
