What’s In The Box? July 13-19

Summering in France
Cool, classic and colorful, Salade Niçoise is the hallmark of summer in France, layered with fresh, crisp produce like green beans, cherry tomatoes and baby potatoes, creamy hard-boiled eggs and accents like briny black olives and protein-rich tuna. Thus, your box this week honors Bastille Day with local and imported ingredients to create your own version of the famous salad, plus summery herbs and produce, a crisp Rosé wine, Pain au Levain bread and our housemade clafoutis batter to whip up a lovely cherry-kissed dessert.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Salade Niçoise Kit
with Black Niçoise Olives & As Do Mar Tuna

This week, we’ve included all the ingredients to craft your own version of Julia Child’s classic salad (see recipes for details!). Protein-rich and perfect for patio dining, this Provençal staple balances the best in summer produce with the classic pairing of plump, briny Niçoise olives and tuna in flavorful olive oil.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter; serve it alongside this week’s centerpiece salad to complete the meal.

Piazza del Castillo Toscana Rosata 2016

Crafted from select grapes grown in the picturesque hills of Tuscany, this Italian-style Rosé is crisp and dry and pairs well with summer salads, grilled fish and seafood or is excellent served alone as an aperitif.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. As we hit midsummer, the “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Housemade Clafoutis Batter

Just add cherries! Crafted from organic sugar, milk, vanilla and Bella Luna eggs, our housemade batter provides the base for a rustic, custardy French dessert. (For best results, use within 2-3 days of delivery.)

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes red cherry tomatoes, green beans, baby beets, baby carrots, Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, Ruby Sensation potatoes, cucumbers, baby mixed summer squash, Easter Egg radishes, sugar snap peas and broccoli raab, plus lemons and Skeena cherries.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Mini Romaine lettuce.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, basil, shallots, garlic, mint and chives. Also included this week: Pungent, flavorful green garlic scapes.
