What’s In The Box? July 28 – August 3
Summer Glory
Welcome the hot, sunny days of August with a lineup of favorites fit for munching, mingling and lingering on the patio, from a housemade frittata kissed with sweet red peppers, potatoes and parsley (just reheat!) to our signature cobbler mix to pair with the first peaches of the season. Featuring a selection of produce ranging from Padrón peppers and heirloom tomatoes to eggplant and zucchini, plus Gruyère cheese bread, fig jam and fragrant herbs, this week’s lineup is bright and summer-fresh—pour a glass of fruity Chardonnay, slice up a peach and enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Housemade Frittata
Crafted in our farmhouse kitchen with eggs from our flock of heritage-breed hens, plus red potatoes, sweet red peppers, Grana-style cheese, fresh parsley and sweet onions, this light and lovely frittata is perfect for either an easy weeknight feast or leisurely weekend brunch. Simply reheat in a 350° oven for about 20-25 minutes or until warmed through, then cut it into generous wedges and serve with this week’s Gruyère cheese bread.
Gruyère Cheese Bread
Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.
Albert Bichot Mâcon Villages Chardonnay 2013
A fantastic wine to serve alongside a heirloom tomato and peach salad (see recipes!), this fruity Chardonnay is crafted by the esteemed Albert Bichot brand from grapes grown in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy and boasts beautiful acacia and honeysuckle floral notes.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.
Fig Jam
Crafted from incredibly-ripe and tender figs, this delicious jam makes for an excellent addition to a cheese platter.
F&L Cobbler Crust Mix
Our signature cobbler crust mix contains organic flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter; when combined with cream, the resulting mixture be used for a light and fluffy cobbler topping or cut into rounds for shortcakes. Pair either with your favorite stone fruit or berries for the perfect summer dessert.
Fresh Starfire Peaches
These freestone peaches are ripe and juicy and ready to be enjoyed in a summery salad or cobbler—see this week’s recipes for ideas.
Seasonal Organic Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes Costuluso zucchini, heirloom tomatoes, purple scallions, green beans, Walla Walla sweet onions, Padrón peppers, baby carrots and eggplant, plus Apollo and Piracicaba sprouting broccoli.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Peppery arugula greens, plus Little Gem and baby Red Romaine lettuces.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Rosemary, Italian parsley, dill flowers and Skagit Rose garlic.
