What’s In The Box? July 6-12

Summer Fresh
This week’s box is fit for summer brunch, lunch and beyond as it stars a housemade frittata packed with eggplant, zucchini and sweet peppers (just reheat!) and hearty morning glory muffins with apricot jam to slather on top. Also featuring such seasonal favorites as summer squash, shelling peas, butter lettuce and sun-ripened strawberries, this bright lineup is rounded out by both Westward blue cheese and colorful edible flowers to accent salads—enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Summer Vegetable & Duck Egg Frittata

Crafted in the farmhouse kitchen from silky duck eggs, plus eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, sweet peppers, Walla Walla sweet onions and freshly-grated Grana cheese, this light and lovely frittata is fit for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Simply reheat in a 350° oven for about 20-25 minutes or until warmed through, then cut it into generous wedges and serve with morning glory muffins and a salad of summer greens.

Morning Glory Muffins

These delicious muffins are baked by our favorite local bakery in Snohomish. Crafted with cinnamon, vanilla, crushed pineapple and finely-grated carrots, they will energize you for the day ahead.

Apricot Jam

Our organic jam is crafted from gorgeous, bright orange Harglow apricots. This particular variety boasts an exceptional flavor and texture, making it ideal for cooking and preserving—enjoy!

Saumur Les Pouches 2012 Cabernet Franc

This classic Loire Valley Cabernet Franc hails from the village of Saumur in France and much like the nearby villages of Chinon and Bourgueil, they turn out a delicate and earthy iteration of Cabernet Franc that is light in body and near transparent in visuals. It’s great for cooking or sipping, featuring strong hints of dried strawberry, cherry, and raspberry fruit leather.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms on warm days, our heritage breed laying hens are also thoroughly enjoying a bounty of sprouting seeds and popweed, in turn supplying us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of blues, green and brown.

Westward Blue Cheese

Similar in style to a gorgonzola, this creamy soft cheese boasts a gorgeous marbled center and flavorful bite, making it a wonderful complement to a summer salad.

Summer Strawberries

Another crop of luscious local strawberries has arrived. Tender and ripe, these local beauties are best enjoyed right away!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes shelling peas, broccoli raab, mixed summer squash, green onions, baby carrots, golden beets, baby fennel and Swiss chard.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Red and green butter lettuces, plus frisée.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh mint, oregano and green garlic.

Edible Flowers

Bright Nasturtium and Viola blossoms to add colorful appeal to your salads this week!
