What’s In The Box? June 29 – July 5

Summer Sunday Supper
In the tradition of our own Nonna Pat’s long-standing Sunday suppers, this week’s box includes all the fixings for a meal to share with your nearest and dearest: Slow-simmered beef and mushroom ragu crafted from a treasured family recipe, air-dried imported Italian pasta, herb-kissed foccacia bread and ingredients for a summery cherry-rhubarb fruit crisp to serve for dessert. Side dish-worthy produce like eggplant, rainbow beets, baby carrots and Swiss Chard round out this robust Italian meal.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Beef & Mushroom Ragu

Slow-simmered in our farmhouse kitchen, this ragu is made with love from tender braised beef, red wine, fresh mushrooms, garlic and fresh herbs. Serve it atop freshly cooked pasta with a grating of fresh Grana cheese for a hearty and satisfying main course.

Rustichella d’Abruzzo Riccia Pasta

Imported from Italy, Rusticella d’Abruzzo pasta is made with the finest quality grains, then blended with pure mountain spring water, extruded through bronze dies and slowly air-dried for a rustic texture that holds sauce beautifully. True to its name “riccia” (which means “curly” in Italian), these noodles boast a wonderful ruffled edge.

Focaccia Bread

This soft, chewy Italian-style loaf is baked just for us by our favorite local bakery. Kissed with fragrant fresh herbs, try it simply dipped in olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

Le Charmel Muscadet Sèvre et Maine

This lovely white wine comes from a 75-acre single estate in the village of Gorges, located in the Eastern part of the Loire Valley near the Atlantic town of Nantes. The wine has beautiful aromas of pears and melons and is very delicate and refined on the palate with lovely mineral notes and a long crisp finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms on warm days, our heritage breed laying hens are also thoroughly enjoying a bounty of sprouting seeds and popweed, in turn supplying us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of blues, green and brown.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from our fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Almond Fruit Crisp Topping

Made with organic cane sugar, ground almonds, almond flour and sweet butter, our signature fruit crisp topping pairs wonderfully with summer cherries and rhubarb—see recipes for details.

Summer Cherries

The first of the local cherries have arrived!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Walla Walla sweet onions, bunched baby carrots, eggplant, rainbow beets, purple kohlrabi, snap peas and Swiss chard, plus rhubarb and lemons.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Treviso radicchio, plus Little Gem and red Romaine lettuces.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh garlic, mint, chives, thyme and oregano.
