What’s In The Box? June 30 – July 6

Fresh Fourth
Fire up the grill and gather family and friends round this week for a flavorful Fourth of July spread highlighted by crisp, cool summer salads. With produce ranging from striped green zucchini and sweet corn to fresh fennel and juicy blueberries, the summery lineup also features a locally-made BBQ dippin’ sauce and our housemade mustard to slather on grilled bratwurst sausages—so pour a glass of wine, tie on an apron and enjoy your Independence Day!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Double D Meats Bratwurst Sausage

Family owned and run since 1955, Double D Meats’ Mountlake Terrace butchery only carries naturally-raised meats, including this week’s smoky bratwurst links spiced with fresh herbs. Make these flavorful sausages the star of your 4th of July feast by serving them hot off the grill with our housemade mustard.

Housemade Mustard

Wonderful slathered over a hearty bratwurst, our signature mustard is bold and slightly spicy, made from whole mustard seeds, parsley, and champagne vinegar.

Leon’s Small Batch Mild BBQ & Dippin’ Sauce

This locally-made BBQ sauce is crafted from a treasured family recipe, utilizing natural ingredients and spices to achieve its signature smooth-smoky flavor and spicy twang. Wonderful served as a condiment or atop pulled pork, smoked chicken and burgers, the mild, gluten-free sauce also makes a great marinade.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs and topped with flaky sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us at our local bakery in Snohomish.

Guardian Cellars ‘Newsprint’ 2014 Malbec

This Columbia Valley red is a real crowd-pleaser, crafted from 100% Malbec grapes aged in 21% French oak barrels by winemakers at Guardian Cellars. With a bold, velvety texture and long lingering finish that boasts hints of cocoa and violets, the small-batch wine pairs nicely with this week’s bratwurst.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Apricot Jam

Our organic jam is crafted from gorgeous, bright orange Harglow apricots. This particular variety’s exceptional flavor and texture make it ideal for cooking and preserving—enjoy!

Fresh Fruit

Van cherries and tangy lemons, plus the first blueberries of the season!

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes bunched baby carrots, red potatoes, Walla Walla sweet onions, Chioggia beets, French Breakfast radishes, striped green zucchini, Joi Choi bok choy, sweet corn and fennel.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of Treviso and Chioggia radicchio, plus Flashy Trout’s Back Romaine lettuce.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh rosemary, oregano, shallots, garlic, Italian parsley and dill. Also included: Flavorful garlic scapes to add to a bold potato salad—see recipes for details.
