What’s In The Box? March 23-29

Signs of Spring
It’s officially spring—and though our days continue to be drippy, the gardens are beginning to show new life as the first of the spring onions, rhubarb and new greens are now gracing us with their presence. Thus, spring fare takes center stage in this week’s box, too, with roasted garlic fougasse bread, cherry-almond fruit crisp topping and our housemade strawberry preserves all helping to accent a bevy of produce that includes snow peas, baby bok choy and fennel. Crack open a bottle of Pinot Noir, pop a fresh rhubarb crisp in the oven and enjoy the first taste of the season!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Spring Rhubarb

The first of the season, this bright-red rhubarb boasts a wonderful tart-sweet flavor.

Cherry-Almond Fruit Crisp Topping

Wonderful paired with this week’s spring rhubarb, our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic cane sugar, ground almonds, sweet butter, and dried cherries.

Garlic Fougasse Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this rustic flatbread is ideal for sharing. Similar in style to traditional focaccia, the artisanal-style loaf is studded with roasted garlic to give it extra depth of flavor.

Oregon Trails Wine Co. Pinot Noir 2014

Crafted from luscious grapes grown in the Willamette Valley, this rich Pinot Noir features black tea and red currant notes, with balanced tannins that carry through to a long and savory finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet, spring days, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Housemade Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, our housemade stock is simmered with carrots, onions, parsley and celery and seasoned with just a dash of sea salt. Try roasting this week’s meaty Oyster mushrooms with a little butter and this stock for an incredibly flavorful side dish.

Strawberry Preserves

Our housemade jam is crafted from ripe, juicy strawberries hand-picked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with berries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin. (That’s it!)

Farm-Fresh Fruit

Juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes golden beets, Jerusalem artichokes, parsnips, Oyster mushrooms, baby bok choy, snow peas, fennel and gorgeous red spring onions.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Beautiful baby spinach greens and Lacinato kale.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, thyme, shallots and garlic.

Potted Tête-à-Tête Daffodils

Housed in a charming clay pot, these miniature daffodils are sure to brighten up your dinner table!
