What’s In The Box? March 9-16

Soup’s On
What a wet month it has been: Rid yourself of the rainy day blues this week with our housemade roasted cauliflower and mushroom soup, plus sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese bread and all the fixings for a bright Cara Cara orange and escarole salad to serve alongside. The week’s provisions also include our bright strawberry jam, European-style cultured butter from Cherry Valley Dairy and spring produce such as fennel, broccolini and leeks. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Roasted Cauliflower Soup with Mushrooms

To produce this incredibly comforting soup, we first roast meaty cauliflower with top-quality olive oil and garden-fresh herbs and then blend those with leeks, onions, thyme, housemade chicken stock and just a touch of cream. A combination of dried Porcini and fresh Cremini mushrooms also lend rich, earthy flavor to this rainy day entrée.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite bakeries, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Claude Lafond Reuilly La Grande Piece Rosé

This lovely and light rosé hails from the esteemed Loire Valley in France and is crafted from perfectly-ripe Pinot Gris grapes. Dry with a petal-pink color, the fragrant wine also shows notes of violet, apples and acacia.

Cherry Valley Dairy Cultured Unsalted Butter

This silky-smooth, European-style cultured butter is crafted from rich milk cream produced by the Duvall-based dairy’s herd of grass-fed Jersey cows.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet, almost-spring days, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Strawberry Jam

Our housemade freezer style jam is crafted from gorgeous, organic strawberries grown in Washington. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this ‘uncooked jam’ with berries, organic sugar, and pectin. (That’s it!)

Farm-Fresh Fruit

Tangy lemons and juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from our fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Farm-Fresh Fruit

Tangy lemons and juicy Cara Cara and Navel oranges.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes broccolini, parsnips, carrots, leeks, fennel, Sieglinde yellow potatoes, Chioggia or golden beets and Lacinato kale, plus red onions.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens and escarole.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, thyme, shallots and garlic. Also included: Fresh micro cilantro to add distinctive flavor to a salad of Cara Cara oranges, escarole and fennel (see recipes for details).
