What’s In The Box? November 10-16

Rise & Shine
It’s breakfast time! Gather round the table this weekend and rid yourself of the rainy day blues with a satisfying brunch starring fresh, hot-from-the-oven cream biscuits topped with our housemade jam. Complemented by breakfast-ready ingredients such as Gruyère-style cheese and a dozen farm-fresh eggs, this week’s box also includes beautiful local mushrooms, fingerling potatoes, winter squash and Mandarin oranges—pour yourself a cup of joe and get cookin’.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Cream Biscuit Mix

Just add cream! Made from organic flour, sugar and butter, plus aluminum-free baking powder and a dash of sea salt, our savory housemade biscuit mix bakes up light and fluffy. Top hot-from-the-oven biscuits with a slathering of homemade blueberry jam or Mandarin orange compote (see recipes for details).

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances rich Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Le Père Jules Normandie Cider Demi-Sec

This semi-sweet, full-bodied cider from Normandy, France is full of apple flavor, plus notes of lemon, orange and almonds. Crisp with a beautiful honey golden color, it would be lovely served with this week’s brunch.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Gruyère-Style Cheese

This traditional Swiss cheese is both sweet and nutty—try it grated into scrambled eggs!

Chanterelle Mushrooms

With a firm texture and light, delicate flavor, these locally-foraged Chanterelle mushrooms shine in a variety of dishes. Try these golden gems simply sautéed in butter and Bella Luna Farms chicken stock, then topped with fresh herbs.

Fresh Citrus

Beautiful, juicy Mandarin oranges.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes fingerling potatoes, cauliflower, parsnips and winter squash.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fresh spinach and radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, rosemary, garlic and shallots.
