What’s In The Box? November 8-14

Fall Comforts
As the last leaves flutter to the ground and dusk descends earlier in the day, now is the time to cozy up with this week’s lineup of warm-and-wonderful fall offerings—rich, flavorful risotto accented with our signature chicken stock and golden sautéed Chanterelle mushrooms, plus fresh pumpernickel bread, farm-fresh eggs and a vibrant produce selection that includes unique black Japanese squash, Lacinato kale, Chioggia radicchio and incredibly juicy Cara Cara oranges. Also complemented by a beautiful assemblage of decorative squash, this lovely autumn meal begs to be eaten fireside, tucked in your favorite chair, with a glass of wine in hand.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Arborio Rice

This round-grain rice comes from the Po River Valley region of Italy and is named for the town of Arborio located in the heart of the area. When cooked with our flavorful chicken stock and a splash of white wine, it becomes creamy and starchy and is a great accompaniment to any flavor combination, especially seasonal Chanterelle mushrooms.

Chanterelle Mushrooms

With a firm texture and light, delicate flavor, local Chanterelle mushrooms shine in a variety of dishes, lending earthy appeal to fall dishes like pastas and soups. Try these golden gems sautéed in butter and added to our signature risotto—check this week’s recipes for details.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt.

Domaine des Cassagnoles Côtes de Gascogne 2017

Similar in style to a Sauvignon Blanc, this light white blend hails from the French winemaking region of Gascony. An ideal pairing for risotto night, it is aromatic and luscious with white pineapple and grassy notes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors; bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes red beets, pac choi, black Spanish radishes, celery, amarosa potatoes and Lacinato kale. Also included: Black Futsu squash, a rare Japanese specialty squash with a unique warty black skin and a nutty, buttery flavor that is enhanced when roasted.

Seasonal Fruit

Juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens and Chioggia radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, shallots and sage.

Decorative Autumn Squash

A beautiful assemblage of fall pumpkins and squash to use in your holiday decor.
