What’s In The Box? October 4-10

Season to Season
Swinging from gray and drippy to sunny, the recent weather has us—and the gardens—towing the line between summer and fall. Luckily, that mercurial forecast also means that we are currently enjoying produce from both seasons as summery favorites like heirloom tomatoes, colorful mixed salad greens and Genovese basil continue to delight in this week’s lineup alongside a comforting soup handcrafted from wild mushrooms, herbs and our own chicken stock. Also included: Gruyère cheese bread, Chanterelle mushrooms and a Honeycrisp apple cider from Sauk Farm so you can toast to whatever season is at hand today.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Wild Mushroom Soup

Earthy and inviting, this soul-soothing soup is slow-simmered in the farmhouse kitchen and crafted from a combination of wild mushrooms, fragrant herbs, shallots and our homemade chicken stock, plus a splash of white wine and a touch of cream. Serve warm with a sprinkling of fresh thyme!

Chanterelle Mushrooms

With a firm texture and light, delicate flavor, locally foraged Chanterelle mushrooms shine in a variety of dishes, lending earthy appeal to dishes like pastas, risottos and soups. Or, try tossing them in with your favorite roasted vegetable.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

La Confrérie de Oisly et Thésée 2017 Les Gourmets Sauvignon Blanc

Hailing from the Loire Valley, this French Sauvignon Blanc features a tangy acidity, crisp texture and a seductive fragrance with notes of citrus fruits, peppers, flowers, herbs and apples.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons.

Sauk Farm Honeycrisp Apple Cider

Crafted from cold-pressed Honeycrisp apples grown on Sauk Farm in Concrete, Washington, this refreshing cider is delicious served crisp and cold all on its own, or is mixed into your next cocktail.

Girl Meets Dirt Orcas Pear with Bay Preserves

Picked at the height of ripeness, these locally cultivated pears cook beautifully into a rosy preserve that also boasts notes of ginger from garden-grown bay leaves. This versatile spread from Orcas Island-based Girl Meets Dirt is a gorgeous topping to pannacotta and cheesecake, and adds a sweet, lightly herbal note to cheese pairings.

Seasonal Fruit

A beautiful assortment of European and Asian pears.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A colorful mix of salad greens!

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes sweet onions, Ozette fingerling potatoes, heirloom tomatoes, golden beets, fennel, Hakurei turnips and Piricicaba broccoli.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thyme, parsley, sage, shallots and Genovese basil.
