What’s In The Box? September 22-28

Fall Fixins’
With cool, crisp weather, football in full swing and vibrant leaves starting to dot the ground, all signs point to the official start of fall this week. Celebrate this beautiful season with a halftime-ready feast starring our housemade chili con carne crafted with fresh garlic and roasted peppers, plus fritter mix to combine with sweet corn and fry up as a stunning side. Also included this week: Imported Irish cheddar cheese, Alder-smoked tomato honey and a bevy of produce that includes cherry tomatoes, golden and Chioggia beets and Savoy cabbage.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Chili Con Carne

Slow-simmered with premium dried black beans, our classic-style chili boasts a wonderful depth of flavor and a smoky-spicy kick, crafted from beef, fresh garlic, onions, roasted peppers and green chiles, plus our own special seasoning blend. (Please note: A vegetarian version will be substituted for non-meat eaters.)

Roasted Corn Fritter Mix

Our housemade dry mix highlights sweet late-summer corn in all its glory. See this week’s recipes for details on how to whip up a batch of these delicious fritters—just mix the dry blend with roasted corn, milk and melted butter.

Alder-Smoked Tomato Honey

This incredible dipping sauce is crafted from local honey and Alder-smoked heirloom tomatoes. Both smoky and sweet in flavor, it is delicious with this week’s corn fritters.

Imported Irish Cheddar Cheese

This rindless, pasteurized cow’s milk cheese is imported from Ireland and boasts a sweet, fruity flavor that is balanced by the moderately sharp bite—it is wonderful for snacking or grated and sprinkled over this week’s chili.

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Made in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus hints of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Lone Birch Pinot Gris 2015

This enticing wine from Prosser-based winery Lone Birch boasts a beautiful bouquet of tropical fruit, as well as well-balanced finish and medium-bodied mouthfeel.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors; bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Lemons and crisp fall apples from the trees at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Sungold cherry tomatoes, red onions, golden and Chioggia beets, mixed summer squash, sweet corn, Marketmore cucumbers, cauliflower, baby Savoy cabbage and Russian fingerling potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Radicchio, frisée and Little Gem baby Romaine lettuce.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, shallots, cilantro, and garlic.
