What’s In The Box? September 28-October 4

Summer or Fall
Swinging from gray and drippy to brilliantly sunny, the recent weather has us—and the gardens—towing the line between summer and fall. Luckily, that mercurial forecast also means that we are currently enjoying produce from both seasons as summery favorites like heirloom tomatoes, green beans and sweet corn continue to delight in this week’s lineup alongside a cozy, comforting bisque handcrafted from autumn Butternut squash. Also included: Fresh multigrain bread, Westward blue cheese and a big, bold red wine so you can toast to whatever season is at hand today.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Butternut Squash Bisque

To craft this incredibly comforting soup, beautiful Butternut squash is first roasted with top-quality olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper, and then blended with garden-fresh herbs, our housemade chicken stock and a splash of silken cream.

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Made in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus hints of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Disruption Red Wine 2014

This red blend from the relatively new but well respected Disruption winery is crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec grapes grown in the Columbia Valley. Big and bold, it boasts beautiful dark fruit notes and a fresh vibrancy on the palate.

Westward Blue Cheese

Similar in style to a gorgonzola, this creamy soft cheese boasts a gorgeous marbled center and flavorful bite, making it a wonderful complement to salad greens.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Ripe Fruit

Juicy Fortune plums from the orchard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Hakurei turnips, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, sweet yellow onions, Antigua Fairy Tale and purple eggplant, sweet corn and sweet grilling peppers.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem mini Romaine lettuce and frisée.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a plethora of bright herbs this week: Italian parsley, basil, mint, sage, rosemary, garlic and shallots.
