What’s In The Box? May 26 – June 1

Spring Color
This week’s lineup is truly color-rich, from fresh-picked rainbow Swiss chard, purple kohlrabi and red cherry tomatoes to beautiful lemon, lime and Cara Cara citrus fruits and pickled carrots from the farmhouse kitchen. Accompanying this bright roster are tangy sheep’s milk feta cheese, a crisp rosé wine, multigrain bread and sweet Kugelhopf cakes to help polish off your spring feast.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Pickled Carrots

Crafted in the farmhouse kitchen, these beautiful spring carrots are pickled in vinegar and fresh herbs such as garlic and parsley. Packing crisp crunch, they are a wonderful afternoon snack or addition to an antipasto platter.

Château de Rouet Cuvée Réserve Tradition

A beautiful apertif to sip before your meal, this pink rosé wine is light and fruity, balanced by notes of red currant. Crafted from grapes grown in the Esterel mountains not far from Cannes, Château de Rouet wines rank among the best in Provence.

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Crafted in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Sheep’s Milk Feta Cheese

Crumbly with a tart, salty bite, this traditional-style aged feta is crafted from 100% whole sheep’s milk.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of longer and warmer days, the “girls” are enjoying long afternoons in the sun, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Kugelhopf Cakes

These Germanic Bundt-style cakes are a true treat, dense and doughnut-like in texture and slightly-sweet in flavor. Slice and serve these petite cakes alongside Cara Cara orange compote or lemon-lime curd for a light and lovely dessert—see recipes for instructions to both accompaniments.

Fresh Citrus

A beautiful trio of fresh lemons, limes and Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Tokyo Market turnips, rainbow Swiss chard, purple kohlrabi, Hedlin Farms cherry tomatoes, green onions and red potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fresh frisée and peppery arugula, plus Speckled Amish and Tom Thumb butter lettuces.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Chives, thyme, green garlic and shallots.
