What’s In The Box? April 2-8

At Your Leisure
The flavors of spring continue to delight, this week in a produce-packed brunch featuring a luscious German-style oven pancake topped with our mixed berry preserves and crème fraîche, maple-spiced breakfast sausage and a farm-fresh egg and vegetable frittata. Accented by a sparkling Prosecco, moist cinnamon raisin bread and colorful produce including Romanesco cauliflower, California Gold nugget mandarins and purple potatoes, this breakfast is fit for a leisurely gathering.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

German-Style Oven Pancake Batter

Made with fresh Bella Luna eggs, butter and milk, this European-style batter creates an airy, light pancake without all the flipping! Try serving the crowd-friendly delight with our housemade crème fraîche and juicy mixed berry preserves.

Skagit River Ranch Breakfast Sausage

With a flavor that hints of maple and spices, this incredible breakfast sausage is made from all-natural pork raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley. These pampered pigs roam outdoors in certified-organic pastureland to root and dig, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Made with moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf from our favorite local bakery in Snohomish makes excellent toast. Set out a freshly-toasted stack along with this week’s mixed berry preserves.

Hi! Prosecco

Refreshing with a clean mineral finish, this sparkling wine hails from the Veneto region of Northern Italy and is crafted from estate-grown grapes cultivated in the shadow of the Alps. Crisp with underlying notes of green apple and citrus, it is delightful sipped on its own, or combined with orange juice in a mimosa.

Housemade Crème Fraîche

Crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream, this rich and silky crème fraîche is delicious dolloped on this week’s oven pancake.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, our heritage breed laying hens enjoy the tasty greens we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green—enjoy a full dozen this week to use in a vegetable-packed frittata (see this week’s recipes for details).

Mixed Berry Preserves

Our housemade jam is crafted from gorgeous, organic berries lovingly handpicked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this ‘uncooked jam’ with raspberries, blackberries and strawberries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin. (That’s it!)

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Romanesco cauliflower, colorful sweet mini peppers and Cipollini onions, plus spring leeks from One Leaf Farm in Snohomish. Also in your box: Gold Nugget mandarins from California, Meyer lemons and Local Roots Farm purple potatoes, kale rapini and baby Tokyo Market turnips.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fresh baby spinach and curly mustard greens from Local Roots Farm.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian parsley, garlic, shallots and thyme from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna.
