What’s In The Box? April 21-27

Spring Color
From meaty, charcoal-hued Oyster mushrooms to ruby-red rhubarb, this week’s lineup is awash in color! Enjoy the best that spring has to offer with the likes of vivid bunching scallions, leeks, Boro red beets, Wild Twist apples and radishes, plus fresh spring “greenery” such as pea shoots, arugula and broccoli microgreens. Also included in this bright box: Farm-fresh eggs from our heritage breed laying hens, a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, Challah bread and chives plucked straight from the herb garden. To spring!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Spring Rhubarb

It’s (finally!) time: This ruby-red rhubarb boasts a wonderful sweet-tart flavor. See this week’s recipes for a few of our most beloved ideas for enjoying this spring favorite!

Black Oyster Mushrooms

These locally-foraged Oyster mushrooms boast a beautifully-meaty, mellow flavor when cooked in a little butter or chicken stock. We also love pan-frying the hybrid beauties with fragrant garden-grown garlic; see this week’s recipes for details.

Challah Bread

Baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this fresh loaf boasts a sweet, rich flavor thanks to a traditional base of silky eggs and Shepherd’s Grain flour, plus a touch of sugar.

2 Copas Sauvignon Blanc 2021

This bright and clean Sauvignon Blanc from Chile features aromas of grapefruit, stone and mint. Crisp and refreshing with a lively vibrant acidity, it also features crisp citrus notes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fresh Organic Greens

Spring pea shoots and broccoli microgreens, plus the first arugula from One Leaf Farm.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Boro red beets, red bunching scallions, leeks, baby bok choy, Hakurei turnips, radishes and fresh ginger, plus Wild Twist apples, a new variety that is a cross between a Honeycrisp and a Cripps Pink.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Spring chives, garlic, and Italian parsley from the garden at Bella Luna Farms.
