What’s In The Box? April 30 – May 6

Spring Sampling
Pour yourself a glass of wine, kick back on the couch and enjoy a sweet sampling of spring with this week’s lineup of antipasti-ready bites—think: Italian-style flatbread kissed with Sicilian sea salt, our luscious herbed fromage blanc and homemade berry preserves, plus kitchen-ready produce that ranges from crisp French Breakfast radishes and Hakurei turnips to Cara Cara oranges and tart-sweet apples. Get ready to mix and match to your heart’s content with this box, which also includes multigrain bread, farm-fresh eggs and a beautiful bounty of spring greens. Cheers!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Bella Cucina Pane Rustica Italian Flatbreads

A perfect accompaniment to this week’s herbed fromage blanc, or pretty much any other antipasto you can dream up, these paper thin Italian flatbreads from Bella Cucina are toasted to a perfect golden brown with olive oil and Sicilian sea salt.

Cherry Valley Herbed Fromage Blanc

This wonderful cheese is made from locally-sourced milk and farm-fresh herbs by Cherry Valley Dairy in Duvall. A creamy and just slightly tangy cheese, it can be used in place of ricotta or mascarpone in recipes. This week, spread some on a flatbread and then top with your favorite spring veg (think: thinly-sliced French breakfast radish), some peppery arugula greens, or even a dollop of mixed berry jam!

Domaine de Couron Côtes du Rhône Viognier

This beautiful, golden-hued French Viognier is light-bodied with a low acidity, all complemented by refreshing notes of honeysuckle, summer flowers and peach.

Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, or strutting around their enclosure on sunny ones, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Mixed Berry Preserves

Our housemade jam is crafted from ripe, juicy berries handpicked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with berries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin. (That’s it!)

Seasonal Organic Greens

Enjoy a bounty of spring greens this week: Pea shoots, sunflowers shoots, peppery arugula greens, rainbow Swiss chard, spinach and green chicory.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes French breakfast radishes, Hakurei turnips and Chioggia beets, plus Cara Cara oranges, Granny Smith and Pacific Rose apples and Meyer lemons.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, garlic, shallots, thyme, tarragon and apple mint from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
