What’s In The Box? April 7-13

The Flavors of Morocco
Light, bright and spiced with alluring fragrance, Moroccan cuisine is defined by robust flavors and textured dishes, all of which we bring to you in this week’s box. With our own rich and savory shakshuka, gorgeous preserved lemons, peppery extra virgin olive-oil, plump sultanas, pitted green olives, and a sweet, floral spice blend that channels traditional ras el hanout, this delivery is sure to perk up your taste buds, also featuring red radishes, golden beets, leeks and a bevy of spring greens like crunchy pea shoots and colorful rainbow Swiss chard.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Shakshuka

With a rich and savory tomato-based sauce and silky runny egg yolks, shakshuka is a popular dish throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa, and this week we’ve included our own version for you. To finish the dish, reheat the sauce in a large pan over medium heat, crack in a few of our farm-fresh eggs and then cover and cook until the eggs are set, 5 to 8 minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs and enjoy!

La Boîte Tangier N.23 Spice Blend

This sweet, floral spice blend of rose petals, cinnamon, and cardamom honors classic Moroccan ras el hanout. Ready to be sprinkled into tagines, couscous and rice dishes, this fragrant mixture can also be blended with yogurt and olive oil to taste and then used as a quick sauce for grilled meat or fish.

Basmati Rice

Fragrant, nutty-tasting long grain rice.

Garlic Fougasse Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this rustic flatbread is ideal for sharing. Similar in style to traditional focaccia, the artisanal-style loaf is studded with fresh garlic to give it extra depth and flavor.

Le Ferre Autentico Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This bold finishing oil is made from hand-harvested Coratina and Frantoio olives and is a favorite of noted chefs in southern Italy. Warm and expansive on the palate, it also features a pleasing peppery finish.

2 Copas Sauvignon Blanc

This bright and clean Sauvignon Blanc from Chile features aromas of grapefruit, stone and mint. Intense and refreshing with a lively vibrant acidity, it also features crisp citrus notes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on a not-quite-so-early-to-bed schedule with the lengthening daylight hours. As they spend a bit more time outdoors in their run, the “girls” are now also enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Maison Roucadil Organic Sultanas

An excellent source of antioxidants, calcium, iron, potassium, vitamins and minerals, these organic sultana raisins are fit to enjoy in your culinary preparations or as a snack.

Preserved Lemons

Crafted and jarred in our farmhouse kitchen with fresh lemon juice and sea salt, these beautiful preserved Meyer lemons are a fantastic pairing for bright Moroccan flavors, or try incorporating them into a vinaigrette for salads.

Mina Moroccan Pitted Green Olives

These Picholine olives are grown on a family farm in Morocco, where they are carefully picked by hand, then cured in water and sea salt.

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a bevy of beautiful spring green this week: Frisée, arugula, rapini, rainbow Swiss chard and pea shoots.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes golden beets, red radishes and leeks.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Chives, garlic and parsley from the garden at Bella Luna Farms.
