What’s In The Box? April 8-14

The Delights of Spring
Spring has awakened in the garden, and this week’s box is thus filled with a bevy of colorful favorites, from orange carrots, bright chives and light-green leeks to purple sprouting broccoli and rainbow Swiss chard. Enjoy these fresh ingredients alongside herb-kissed focaccia bread and unique black lentils. Also including a plethora of greens, farm-fresh eggs, and bright citrus fruit, this springtime lineup is sure to delight.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Beluga Black Caviar Lentils

These hearty, small ebony-hued lentils resemble caviar and boast a unique taste and texture. Versatile and indulgent, they are also quick-cooking with skins that almost melt away in the process; the end result is a firm, yet creamy, bean. (To cook, simmer the beans gently with water or stock, a bay leaf and a garlic clove until done, about 20-25 minutes. Check often as they can overcook quickly.)

Focaccia Bread

This soft, chewy Italian-style loaf is baked just for us by our favorite local bakery. Kissed with fragrant fresh herbs, it is delicious served warm and dipped in olive oil.

Nuflours Zucchini Cardamom Coffee Cake

Start your day off right with this moist and fragrant gluten free cake, loaded with fresh zucchini and a hint of savory cardamom.

Lapis Luna 2018 Chardonnay

This California Chardonnay features orange zest, ripe pineapple and vanilla on the nose. Full-bodied, fresh and lively, it is also lush with white peach and ripe apple flavors, leading to a savory buttered finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Frisée, mixed seasonal greens, pea shoots, sunflower shoots, purple radish microgreens and rainbow Swiss chard.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes scallions, leeks, Walla Walla sweet onions, purple sprouting broccoli, Austrian Crescent fingerling potatoes, carrots, Cremini mushrooms, cauliflower and Lacinato kale rapini, plus Pink Lady apples, Meyer lemons and Cara Cara oranges.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, chives and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
