What’s In The Box? August 1-7

Summering in France
Cool, crisp and colorful, Salade Niçoise is the hallmark of summer in France, layered with fresh produce like green beans, heirloom tomatoes and baby red potatoes, plus accents like creamy hard-boiled eggs and protein-rich tuna. Thus, your box this week includes ingredients to create your own version of Julia Child’s famous salad, plus a crisp French Rosé, Pain au Levain bread, candied almond dark chocolate bar and other summer favorites like blueberries and ripe, juicy peaches. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Salade Niçoise Kit

Protein-rich and perfect for patio dining, this Provençal staple balances the best in summer produce—green beans, baby red potatoes and heirloom tomatoes—with the classic trio of creamy hard-boiled eggs, plump, briny black olives and flavorful tuna. This week, we’ve included the ingredients to craft your own version of Julia Child’s classic recipe (see the enclosed recipe card for ideas!):

Canned Albacore Tuna

Flavorful canned wild tuna from local company Lummi Island Wild.

Niçoise Vinaigrette

This light, Dijon mustard-based dressing is seasoned with sea salt, cracked pepper, fresh herbs and tart white wine vinegar.

Pain au Levain Loaf

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

La Petite Perrière Rosé

Boasting a beautiful pale salmon hue, this easy-going Rosé from France is fresh and clean with a soft, silky texture, plus notes of raspberries, strawberries, red currants and violets.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. As we hit midsummer, the “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Dick Taylor Candied Almond Dark Chocolate Bar

Crafted ‘bean-to-bar’ in their small, Northern California factory, this gorgeous chocolate bar from Dick Taylor is made from California almonds candied with sugar and cinnamon, plus organic cacao and cane sugar.

Artisan Salt Company Cyprus Mediterranean Flake Salt

AThe texture and mild taste of this versatile flake sea salt from Woodinville-based Saltworks make it ideal for a variety of uses in cooking, baking and garnishing.

Summer Fruit

Blueberries and peaches from Cloud Mountain farm in Everson.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Spicy microgreens, pea tendrils and Romaine lettuce.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes green beans, baby red potatoes, One Leaf Farm heirloom tomatoes, Chioggia beets, sugar snap peas, Italian zucchini and cucumbers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, mint, basil and rosemary from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
