What’s In The Box? August 13-19

Peach Season
With a delicate, fragrant aroma and juicy, tender flesh, the peach is a cornerstone of late summer dining and we’re celebrating the stone fruit in all its glory. With a beautiful selection of produce ranging from bicolor corn and heirloom tomatoes to zesty limes, plus flavorful smoked chicken, pumpernickel bread and delicate quail eggs, this week’s lineup is bright and summer-fresh—shake up a fruity cocktail with Lime basil simple syrup, slice up a peach and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Ripe Peaches

This week’s featured ingredient—beautiful, juicy summer peaches from Tonnemaker Family Orchard! See this week’s recipes for ideas on gobbling up the late summer fruit, including a peachy herb-infused cocktail and a sweet and savory grilled peach salad.

Double D Meats Smoked Chicken

Family owned and run since 1955, this Mountlake Terrace butchery only carries naturally raised meats. This includes this week’s smoky, flavorful chicken, which is organically raised at Draper Valley Farm, then cured and smoked in-house by Double D Meats.

Pumpernickel Bread

This slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is baked just for us by our favorite local bakery in downtown Snohomish. With a chewy, wholesome texture, it makes fantastic sandwich bread; this week, try it layered with smoked chicken, arugula, peach slices and just a touch of mayo, or with thinly sliced cucumber, sea salt and a drizzle of honey.

Buil & Gine Nosis 2014

This wine comes from the Fuente la Miel vineyard (meaning “source of the honey”) in the Rueda wine region of central Spain, which is planted with 35-year-old Verdejo grape vines. The wine is bright and refreshing, with an herbaceous, grassy nose and brisk acidity. It also has depth, with tropical and citrus fruits and minerality.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our flock of heritage breed laying hens produce eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green. During the warm days of summer, the ‘girls’ spend their days outdoors chasing tasty bugs, taking dust baths and enjoying the tasty raspberry leaves we feed them from the garden.

Quail Eggs

Considered a delicacy in many parts of the world, the quail egg packs a beautifully rich flavor inside its speckled brown and tan shell. Wonderful poached, pickled and even sunny side up, these petite beauties from Oak Meadows Farm are particularly stunning in deviled form as outlined in this week’s recipes.

Westward Blue Cheese

Similar in style to a gorgonzola, this creamy soft cheese boasts a gorgeous marbled center and flavorful bite.

Lime Basil Simple Syrup

Our housemade syrup is made with fragrant Lime basil leaves and flowers, and just begs to be mixed into a summery cocktail or mocktail.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes lemons, limes, blueberries and orange-fleshed Honeydew melons, as well as Walla Walla sweet onions, bicolor corn, Marketmore cucumbers, mixed heirloom summer squashes, French Breakfast radishes, red cherry tomatoes, eggplant, artichokes, broccoli and Tokyo Market turnips. This week’s selection of heirloom tomatoes includes a colorful mix of Green Zebra, Brandywine, Black Prince, Striped German and Cosmonaut Volkov varieties, to name a few!

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of Samantha red oakleaf lettuce and peppery arugula.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian parsley, mint, lavender, garlic and shallots.
