What’s In The Box? August 15-21

Summer All-Stars
Tomatoes! Blueberries! Zucchini! These late summer staples are arriving in abundance here in August and this week’s box celebrates them in all their sun-ripened glory, as well as other favorites such as Chioggia radicchio, fennel and red and yellow plums from the orchards here at Bella Luna. Also joining these summer all-stars: Fresh, handcrafted bucatini pasta from Bellingham Pasta Co. and multigrain bread, plus fragrant herbs and our signature chicken stock. Long live summer!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Bucatini Pasta

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”. This week, top this lovely pasta with fresh heirloom tomatoes and basil for a quick, summery entrée.

Housemade Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, our housemade stock is simmered with carrots, onions, parsley and celery and seasoned with just a dash of sea salt.

Multigrain Bread

From our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour, honey and seven different whole grains, all topped with toasted sunflower seeds.

Domaine de Couron Ardèche Rosé

This beautiful, dry Rosé is crafted by a family-run estate that lies in the tiny hamlet of Saint Marcel d’Ardeche in France. Flavors of strawberries and cherries on the palate are nicely balanced by a nice effervescence.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Summer Fruit

Plump local blueberries, plus red and yellow plums from the orchards at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Chioggia radicchio.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes Chioggia beets, sweet onions, fennel, heirloom tomatoes and Costata di Romanesco zucchini.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Basil, parsley and tarragon from the walled garden and greenhouse.
