What’s In The Box? August 29-September 4

Late Summer Bounty
From juicy heirloom tomatoes and eggplant to fragrant peaches and mixed summer squash, the late-season bounty continues this week with a fresh and flavorful lineup also starring two varieties of eggs—those from our flock of heritage-breed hens, plus petite local quail eggs. Add alongside sun dried tomato-kissed Pomodoro bread, plus fresh feta cheese and other crisp produce including celery, fennel and Basque peppers, and you’ve got all the makings of an al fresco feast this holiday weekend. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Feta Cheese

Creamy with just the right amount of tang, our housemade feta is crafted from a mix of Bella Luna goat’s milk as well as cow’s milk. Sprinkle this beautiful soft cheese over a summery salad for the perfect finishing touch.

Vallevo Trebbiano d’Abruzzo

Crafted from the refreshing Trebbiano grapes grown in Abruzzo, Italy, this light and crisp white wine pairs beautifully with pasta salads and crisp greens. Enjoy its clean citrus notes and nice minerality on the palate, along with a hint of fresh grass.

Quail Eggs

Considered a delicacy in many parts of the world, the quail egg packs a beautifully rich flavor inside its tiny speckled brown and tan shell. These petite beauties from Oak Meadows Farm are wonderful poached, pickled or even fried sunny side up!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the late summer afternoons and accompanying pleasant evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Summer Fruit

Beautifully-ripe yellow peaches.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Salad mix, escarole and Chioggia radicchio.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes Baby red beets, heirloom tomatoes, celery, fennel, eggplant, Basque peppers, Walla Walla sweet onions, French Breakfast radishes, mixed summer squash and fingerling potatoes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

A beautiful assortment of herbs from the walled garden and greenhouse: Basil, parsley and rosemary.
