What’s In The Box? August 4-10

AUGUST 4-10

Summer Splendor
Green beans to heirloom tomatoes, zucchini to baby artichokes, the summer hits just keep coming! This box celebrates summer with a plethora of locally-grown produce—yellow Romano beans, cucumbers, and Walla Walla bunched onions, as well as crisp Cegolaine lettuces and fragrant garden herbs—all accented by imported Italian pasta, sunflower seed-kissed multigrain bread, peppery edible flowers, farm-fresh eggs and a market bouquet to grace your table. So, slice up an apricot, thumb through the recipes and enjoy these summer gems to the fullest.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Imported Pasta Al Ceppo

Crafted in the traditional Italian style from semolina flour and cut using Old World bronze dies, this artisanal pasta imported by Rustichella d’Abruzzo is the same size and shape as a classic cinnamon stick to closely resemble its name, which translates as “rolled by a stick”!

Baby Artichokes

A favorite in Italian cuisine, and also a favorite here at the farm, these fresh baby artichokes are incredibly delicious and nutrient-rich.

Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Clos des Lumières L’éclat Côtes du Rhône 2018

With notes of oak, dark cherry and a hint of vanilla, this easy drinking, yet bold, red from the southern Rhône region of France also features medium tannins and a dry finish after a push of fruit up front.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fresh Organic Greens

Cegolaine lettuce greens.

Fresh Fruit

Ripe apricots and lemons.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes red and Walla Walla bunched onions, yellow Romano beans, bunched Bolero carrots, fennel, cucumbers, green beans, red radishes, turnips, zucchini and heirloom tomatoes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Garlic, parsley, oregano, fresh coriander and basil from the herb garden at Bella Luna.

Market Bouquet & Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery edible flowers to add color and a subtle-peppery spice to your summer dishes, plus a beautiful arrangement of summer blooms!
