What’s In The Box? August 5-11

Summer Splendor
The time is ripe—for just about everything! This week’s box features an all-star lineup of summer favorites, from cucumbers, fennel and sweet onions to a beautiful assortment of cherry and heirloom tomatoes, as well as Meyer lemons and apricots. Also included in this colorful roster: Fresh Pain au Levain bread, sweet and buttery Frescatrano olives, farm-fresh eggs and our signature cobbler crust mix to put that summer stone fruit to delicious use. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Mixed Cherry & Heirloom Tomatoes

A true hallmark of summer, these locally-grown mixed cherry and juicy heirloom tomatoes are ripe and ready to enjoy. Pop a few petite ones in your mouth as you peruse recipes—we’ve included lots of ideas for enjoying these seasonal beauties this week!

Frescatrano Olives

This unpasteurized and unfermented Halkidiki olive varietal from Greece is similar to a Castelvetrano, with a natural sweetness and vibrant green color. Fruity, buttery, fresh and crisp, these olives are a wonderful addition to salads, cocktails and starters like cheese plates.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Tortoise Creek Chardonnay

This 2018 Chardonnay from Lodi, California, boasts bright, fresh aromas and flavors of citrus, pear, apple and white flowers. Its creamy texture is supported by fresh acidity and a long, clean finish, as well as a spicy, warm mouthfeel.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of cream, beige and brown.

F&L Cobbler Crust Mix

Our signature cobbler crust mix contains organic flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter; when combined with a splash of milk, the resulting mixture produces a light and fluffy cobbler topping. Pair with either your favorite stone fruit or berries for the perfect summer dessert.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem mini Romaine lettuce and escarole.

Seasonal Organic Fruit

Local organic apricots and Meyer lemons.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes fennel bulbs, cucumbers, Gelber Englischer and Patty Pan squash, French fingerling potatoes and Walla Walla sweet onions.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Basil, parsley, rosemary and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
