What’s In The Box? December 3-9

Hearty & Healthy
Pick yourself up from the post-holiday letdown this week with a nourishing bowl of handcrafted soup: Made from organic Beluga lentils and fresh vegetables simmered in our own chicken stock base, this hearty, healthy soup is wonderful served alongside toasted whole grain bread and a glass of earthy, spicy Côtes du Rhône wine from France. Accented by seasonal produce ranging from beets and winter squash to rainbow Swiss chard, this cold weather meal is finished off with a limited-release dark chocolate bar.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Lentil Soup

Healthy, savory and incredibly satisfying, our rustic housemade soup is made by slow-simmering fresh vegetables—including carrots, cabbage, celery and tomatoes—with Beluga lentils in our housemade chicken broth base. Finished with crispy shoulder bacon from Duvall-based Nelli Farms, this soup is delicious served with a toasted hunk of whole grain bread.

Fresh Whole Grain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite local bakeries, this healthy round loaf is made from 7 different whole grains and locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Saint Cosme Côtes du Rhône 2013

This earthy and spicy red blend hails from the revered Saint Cosme in France, where 14th generation winemaker Louis Barruol crafts wines defined by their beautiful balance and fresh fruit notes. This particular Côtes du Rhône is precise and very ripe, with notes of licorice, black currants and berries.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time snug in their coop during this cold blustery weather, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Westward Blue Cheese

For a flavorful kick, crumble this gorgeous, marbled soft cheese on top of salads with fresh fall fruits and toasted walnuts or hazelnuts.

Dick Taylor Limited-Release Craft Chocolate Bar

Crafted ‘bean-to-bar’ in their small, Northern California factory, this limited-release chocolate bar from Dick Taylor is made with wild harvest beans sourced from ancient cacao trees found along the upper reaches of the Beni River in Bolivia.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Ripe fresh-picked fall fruits to include a colorful assortment of D’Anjou and Olympic pears, plus Macoun, Pippin and Candy Crisp apples.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Acorn winter squash, yellow Chantenay carrots, leeks, Ozette fingerling potatoes, celery, sweet yellow onions, Forono cylindrical beets, rainbow Swiss chard, Rosso di Verona radicchio, fennel bulb and January King Savoy cabbage.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Included this week: Rockette, a beautiful variety of peppery arugula.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian flat-leaf parsley, garlic and golden Conservor shallots.
