What’s In The Box? February 10-16
Lots of Love
In honor of Valentine’s Day, this week’s box embraces two of our greatest passions: fresh, seasonal fare and gathering around the table with the ones we adore most. Thus, this mix-and-match menu is fit for sharing with flaky smoked salmon and Ikura salmon caviar roe, plus Marcona almonds, charcoal parchment crackers and Italian-style Caciotta cheese, all to set out for some sweet sampling. Also included: Fresh pumpernickel bread, Tunawerth creamery Greek yogurt, extra-virgin olive oil and fresh produce such as baby leeks, salad greens and winter squash, as well as a raspberry-kissed chocolate bar and festive sugar cookies to end your evening with a little extra love.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Lummi Island Wild Smoked Salmon
Tender and perfectly flaky, this top-quality salmon retains its lovely moisture thanks to a low-salt recipe and light Alder smoke.
Ikura Salmon Caviar Roe
With its bright color and light, clean flavor, this beautiful salmon roe will add a little “pop” to your Valentine’s Day spread, crafted from wild-caught, Pacific Northwest salmon and produced with a custom brine that preserves the roe’s natural taste.
Marcona Almonds
Sweet and buttery, these imported Spanish almonds are great for snacking or tossing into salads for a little added crunch.
Pane Carasau Sardinian Edible Charcoal Parchment Crackers
Tradition meets innovation in this contemporary riff on pane carasau imported from Italy. (Plus: The stunning color is sure to add a little extra something to your spread.)
Pumpernickel Bread
This slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish.
Clos des Lumières L’éclat Côtes du Rhône Rouge
This refreshing French Rosé is crafted from a medley of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre grapes that give the wine a very fine nose dominated by hints of strawberry, pink grapefruit cherry.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the short daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Caciotta Cheese
This creamy, semi-soft Tuscan-style cheese is similar in style to an Italian Pecorino, but with a sweeter and more delicate flavor profile. Enjoy it on a cheese plate along with this week’s Marcona almonds and some sliced pears!
Tunawerth Creamery Greek Yogurt
Perfectly-creamy, yet delightfully-tangy, this lovely yogurt hails from a small, family-operated creamery located in Tenino, Washington.
Partanna Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
This monovarietal olive oil is made with 100% Nocellara del Belice olives from the province of Trapani in Sicily that are freshly-pressed within hours of picking. With a rich flavor profile that features notes of artichokes, almonds and a peppery finish, it is ideal for both cooking and as a finishing oil.
Fresh Organic Greens
Colorful salad mix, pea shoots and cantaloupe shoots.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection includes Delicata squash, red beets and baby leeks, plus D’Anjou pears.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Spanish Roja garlic, thyme and Italian parsley and shallots from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
Dick Taylor Vanilla Raspberry Chocolate Bar
Made ‘bean-to-bar’ in Dick Taylor’s small Northern California factory, this dark chocolate bar is kissed with a mix of organic, freeze-dried raspberries and organic vanilla-coconut palm sugar.
Sugar Cookies
Indulge in a little Valentine’s Day treat with these freshly-baked sugar cookies!
