What’s In The Box? February 11-17

Italian Romance
Bask in your love this Valentine’s Day with a leisurely, luscious dinner fit for two: Start with a crisp glass of Riesling and warm, sun-dried tomato-kissed Pomodoro bread, then linger over handcrafted pasta tossed with our Nonna Pat’s spicy-savory Puttanesca sauce and freshly-grated Grana-style cheese. Also included in this week’s box: Farm-fresh eggs, spinach salad greens and seasonal produce including kale, cauliflower and winter squash.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Nonna Pat’s Puttanesca Sauce

Crafted according to the treasured family recipe passed down from our own Nonna, this red sauce is lovingly-made from garden-grown tomatoes picked at the height of summer, plus fragrant garlic, red pepper flakes and briny capers and olives. Tossed with chopped parsley, freshly-grated Grana cheese and this week’s locally-made pasta, it adds just the right amount of salty-spicy kick to the dish.

Lagana Foods Conchiglie Pasta

Founded by local superstar chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington, Lagana Foods pasta is hand-crafted in downtown Seattle using semolina flour and water and cut to shape with Old-World bronze dies to give the dough intentionally rustic appeal. This week, try this lovely sea shell-shaped pasta cooked al dente and then topped with our Nonna Pat’s spicy red sauce.

Grana-Style Cheese

Made in our farmstead creamery, this hard Grana-style cheese is crafted from part-skim cow’s milk to allow for longer aging of 24 months or more. Ideal for grating over pasta, the drum-shaped cheese is turned and rubbed with olive oil during aging to create a smooth, golden rind.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes, herbs and topped with flaky sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us at by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Selbach Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling

This crisp Riesling is crafted by estate winemaker Johannes Selbach near the town of Piesport in Germany, a region that has produced beautiful wines since Roman times. Light with a dry finish, it pairs beautifully with appetizers, salads and light main dishes such as this week’s pasta.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time snug in their coop during the blustery late-winter months, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Farm-Fresh Fruit

Candy Crisp apples from Tonnemaker Family Orchard and Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Lacinato kale, cauliflower, Local Roots’ carrots, yellow onions and Delicata or Acorn winter squash.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fresh baby spinach and peppery arugula.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh rosemary, thyme, Italian parsley, garlic and shallots from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna.
