What’s In The Box? February 20-26

Spice It Up
From our smoky chili-citrus vinaigrette to drizzle over winter citrus fruit and micro cilantro in a salad to Skagit River Ranch’s famous all-natural chorizo sausages to mix into a frittata, this week’s lineup is sure to spice things up. Blending beautifully with fresh Northwest produce like leeks, scallions and Badger Flame beets, your box also includes fresh pomodoro bread and a ruby-hued Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina to help it all go down smooth. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork and makes for a spicy addition to a frittata crafted from our farmstead eggs—see recipes for details!

Chili-Citrus Vinaigrette

This bright and spicy housemade vinaigrette is crafted from olive oil, smoky chili seasonings and fresh citrus juices—and is utterly delicious tossed with winter citrus and greens!

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and topped with flaky sea salt, this savory, herb-kissed loaf is baked just for us at by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Domaine Bousquet Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Made from organically-grown grapes cultivated at high elevation in the Mendoza province of Argentina, this dark, ruby-hued Cabernet Sauvignon features intense berry flavors mixed with spicy black pepper and mineral notes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our new flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the short daylight hours. As they spend most of their time snug in the coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of “scratch” (mixed grains and ground oyster shell) to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fresh Seasonal Fruit

Cara Cara and blood oranges, plus Meyer lemons and limes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

What a bounty of beautiful greens! This week, enjoy peppery arugula greens, baby spinach and Swiss chard.

Badger Flame Beets

Featuring all the vegetal sweetness of classic beets, without the polarizing earthiness, this brilliant new varietal is the brainchild of breeder Irwin Goldman as part of the new venture, Row 7, a startup that selectively breeds a variety of vegetables to maximize factors like yield, shelf stability, and, of course, flavor.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes leeks, onions, carrots, fennel, fingerling potatoes and
scallions.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thyme, parsley, shallots and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms, plus micro cilantro.
