What’s In The Box? February 25 – March 2

Beer, Brats & Cheese
Hearty and heartening, the combination of beer, brats and cheese is a hard one to beat at the end of a long day. Coupled with an array of fresh produce ranging from colorful beets and green cabbage to Yukon Gold potatoes and kale, this week’s lineup features such favorites as sauerkraut, pumpernickel bread and a smoky-sweet BBQ mustard to pair with this very-satisfying trio: Locally-crafted cheddar and Stout bratwurst, Pike Brewing Company’s Extra Stout Ale and our housemade fresh Cheddar cheese curds. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Jones Family Farms’ Cheddar & Stout Bratwurst

Crafted at Maple Leaf’s Link Lab Artisan Meats with hickory-smoked Cheddar cheese and Fremont Brewing’s Imperial Dark Star Oatmeal Stout, these bold, flavorful bratwursts also star Jones Family Farms’ signature grass-fed pork, which is raised on the family’s picturesque Lopez Island farm in the San Juans. Please note: Smoked chicken from Double D Meats will be substituted for subscribers who have specified for no pork products.

Mustard and Co. Smoky BBQ Mustard

Crafted weekly in small batches at this local company’s Georgetown shop, this smoky, just slightly sweet mustard is made from fresh-ground and raw organic mustard seed, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, molasses, concentrated smoke, Jacobsen Salt Co. sea salt and the company’s signature blend of spices.

Housemade Sauerkraut

Made from finely-shredded cabbage fermented with sea salt, this traditional German condiment packs a wonderful, tangy kick.

Pumpernickel Rye Bread

Baked by our favorite local bakery in Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful toasted and served alongside this week’s bevy of Bavarian-style favorites.

Pike Brewing Company Extra Stout Ale

This deep amber ale from Pike Place Market’s own Pike Brewing Company packs punch with a robust, roasted malt flavor and smooth and full finish. With hints of dark chocolate and coffee, it stands up nicely to this week’s flavorful bratwurst.

Cheddar Curds

Crafted in our farmstead creamery, our fresh Cheddar cheese curds are mild and creamy with just a little squeaky bite!

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days (or basking in those brief moments of sun like that of this past week!), our heritage breed laying hens enjoy the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green with bright yellow yolks.

Apple Crisp Topping

Wonderful paired with this week’s selection of farm-fresh apples, our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic brown sugar, sweet butter, fragrant cinnamon, dried cherries and toasted pecans.

Orchard Apples

Candy Crisp, Pippin, and Braeburn apples from Tonnemaker Family Orchard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Yukon Gold potatoes, green cabbage, Chioggia beets, Gilfeather turnips, Cipollini onions, celery root and kale.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Garlic, shallots, Italian parsley and thyme from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna.
