What’s In The Box? January 21-27

Full of Flavor
From pungent black radishes and earthy Cremini and Shiitake mushrooms to organic pork and a vibrant, locally-crafted hot pepper sauce, this week’s lineup is chock-full of flavor—and just waiting for you to toss together in a stir-fry. Accented by such sauté-ready produce as broccolini, cabbage, carrots and scallions, as well as fragrant herbs and salad mix, the colorful box also includes fresh Pain au Levain bread, our housemade granola and signature chicken stock; enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Pork Stir-Fry Meat

This all-natural pork is raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley, where the pampered pigs roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root and dig, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.

Shiitake and Cremini Mushrooms

This duo of locally-grown fungi will add earthy appeal to this week’s stir-fry supper.

Nero Tondo Radishes

Grown by our friends at Steel Wheel Farm in Fall City, these heirloom Spanish radishes boast a matte black exterior and dense, crunchy white interior. Raw, they have a pungent, spicy flavor that turns mild and sweet when cooked.

Spoon Full Farm Sun Sauce

Crafted from garlic, raw honey, San Juan Island sea salt and the farm’s signature Lady Han hot peppers, this hot sauce from Spoon Full Farm in Thorp, Washington, is fermented for three weeks to allow beneficial bacteria to break down the natural sugars, adding digestive enzymes and living nutrition—we love it dashed over a stir fry or mixed with mayo and added to sandwiches!

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Lapis Luna 2018 Chardonnay

This California Chardonnay features orange zest, ripe pineapple and vanilla on the nose. Full-bodied, fresh and lively, it is also lush with white peach and ripe apple flavors, leading to a savory buttered finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the short days of winter, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors. Bedtime is much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Housemade Granola

Our granola is hand-crafted in the farmhouse kitchen with toasted pepitas, sunflower seeds, oats and local honey—fantastic served with citrus fruit and Greek yogurt or splashed with cold milk.

F&L Chicken Stock

Our housemade chicken stock is crafted from Bella Luna chickens and slow-simmered for hours with fresh herbs, cracked pepper and just a dash of sea salt.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fall salad mix and living pea shoots.

Fresh Fruit

Cara Cara oranges and Meyer lemons.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes yellow onions, leeks, baby cabbage, purple top turnips, orange carrots, red beets, Butternut squash, scallions, fennel and broccolini.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Elephant garlic, ginger and Italian parsley from the walled garden and hoophouse at Bella Luna Farms.
