What’s In The Box? January 30 – February 5

Weekend Brunch
Rise and shine! Gather around the table this weekend and rid yourself of the rainy day blues with a satisfying meal featuring such housemade provisions as apple cake mix with walnuts and cranberries, crunchy pickled carrots and freshly-made apple butter to slather on toasted multigrain bread. Complemented by other brunch-ready ingredients such as smoked salmon, Italian Prosecco and, of course, farm-fresh eggs, this week’s box also includes Cara Cara oranges, McIntosh apples and a truly-special new variety of beet—so pour yourself a mimosa and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Smoked Wild Salmon

Tender and perfectly flaky, this top-quality, reef net-caught salmon is hot smoked over alder coals and kissed with just the right amount of sea salt and brown sugar.

Housemade Pickled Carrots

Crafted in the farmhouse kitchen, these beautiful carrots are pickled in vinegar and fresh herbs such as garlic and parsley. Packing crisp crunch, they are a wonderful snack or a fantastic addition to an antipasto platter.

Multigrain Bread

From our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour, honey and seven different whole grains, all topped with toasted sunflower seeds.

Freshly-Made Apple Butter

A farmhouse favorite made from fresh-picked orchard apples, slow-cooked in a cider reduction and seasoned with brown sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon.

Mille Prosecco Millesimato Extra-Dry DOC

Fabulously lively and light at every glass, this extra-dry Italian Prosecco features a bouquet of apple and pear notes as well as hints of light citrus.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of “scratch” (mixed grains and ground oyster shell) to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Apple Cake Mix with Walnuts & Cranberries

Crafted from our own signature recipe, this apple cake mix bakes up moist and delicious when simply mixed with eggs, diced apples, walnuts and cranberries—see recipes for details!

Fresh Seasonal Fruit

McIntosh apples, Cara Cara oranges and Meyer lemons.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Butter lettuce, Lacinato kale and Bull’s Blood beet microgreens.

Badger Flame Beets

Featuring all the vegetal sweetness of classic beets, without the polarizing earthiness, this brilliant new varietal is the brainchild of breeder Irwin Goldman as part of the new venture, Row 7, a startup that selectively breeds a variety of vegetables to maximize factors like yield, shelf stability, and, of course, flavor.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Amarosa potatoes, Brussels sprouts, yellow onions, cauliflower, Spanish and red radishes and leeks.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thyme, shallots and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
