What’s In The Box? July 1-7

Paella Party
Cucumbers! Zucchini! Fava Beans! Yes, summer—and some of its most treasured crops—truly has arrived here in the Northwest, especially after this past week’s (intense!) heat. This week, put these gorgeous offerings to delicious use in a traditional Spanish-style paella crafted with traditional Valenciano rice and spicy chorizo sausage. Also featuring cinnamon-raisin bread, Fairhaven Mills cornmeal, grilled olives and peppers, plus Marcona almonds and farm-fresh eggs, this summery lineup is fit for a 4th of July crowd—gather ‘round the paella pan, uncork a bottle of wine and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Paella Rice

Traditional short-grain Valenciano rice from Spain to help craft this week’s simple, summery paella—just toss in your favorite veggies!

Smoking Goose Chorizo Sausage

Spiced with cumin, oregano, Ancho chili and sherry vinegar, this zippy pork sausage from the renowned Smoking Goose Meatery is sure to add flavor and heat to any dish.

Pimentón

Add a dash of this Spanish paprika to your paella this week!

Grilled Olives & Peppers

A wonderful complement to this week’s paella, this awesome combination of grilled olives and sweet peppers would be delicious atop slices of grilled Pain au Levain bread.

Fresh Cinnamon-Raisin Bread

Made with natural starter, cinnamon and moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf is from our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Borsao Macabeo-Chardonnay 2015

Lightly candied white-fruit aromas and a medium-bodied palate help jump-start with Spanish white. Made from a blend of Macabeo and Chardonnay grapes, it features flavors of green banana and pithy lime and ends with tropical overtones.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of cream, beige and brown.

Fairhaven Mill Whole Grain Yellow Cornmeal

Nestled in the Skagit Valley, this family and farmer-owned certified-organic flour mill sources their grains from family farms across the country, guaranteeing freshness and quality from tilth to table. Made from organic dent corn, this cornmeal has a high starch content and distinct corny texture, helping to make for excellent muffins, cornbread, fresh tortillas and more.

Marcona Almonds

These imported Spanish almonds are great for snacking, tossing into salads, or even serving atop on your paella for a little added crunch.

Fresh Fava Beans

These verdant, seasonal beans do require a bit of prep work (see our how-to guide enclosed with this week’s recipes), but it’s worth the effort—enjoy their inherent sweet, nutty flavor with everything from pastas to proteins.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Gorgeous frisée to enjoy in your salads this week.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes mini red cabbage, broccolini, cauliflower, zucchini, English cucumbers, baby bok choy and red beets.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Cilantro, rosemary, thyme and sage from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery edible flowers to add color and spice to your salads.
