What’s In The Box? July 23-29

Italian Summer
The Italian summer calls to mind visions of sparkling wine, homemade pasta and garden-fresh produce simply and beautifully prepared. Hence, this week’s box captures the flavors of summer by way of Italy with a colorful, rustic rigatoni pasta tossed with ripe cherry tomatoes, summer squash and creamy ricotta, plus fresh Pomodoro bread and squash blossoms for frying. Also included for this relaxed, refreshing meal: A classic Italian Moscato and lemon-almond fruit crisp topping for a summery dessert.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Lagana Foods Rigatoni Pasta

Created by local chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington, Lagana Foods pasta is hand-crafted using semolina flour and water, then cut to shape with Old-World bronze dies to give the dough an intentionally rustic appeal. This week, try this tube-shaped pasta tossed with summer squash, cherry tomatoes and fresh ricotta—see recipes for details.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, this savory loaf is baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish.

Bruno Soria Cascina del Santuario Moscato d’Asti

Made by a family-managed wine producing firm in Castiglione Tinella, a small Piedmont village in Italy, this sparkling wine is crafted from hand-cropped Moscato d’Asti grapes. With a full harmonic flavor thanks to hints of yellow peach and grapefruit, it is sweet, yet slightly savory, pairing nicely with summer produce.

Fresh Ricotta

Rich, creamy, and mildly sweet, this lovely fresh ricotta is delicious in our summery recipes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our flock of heritage breed laying hens produce eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green. During the warm days of summer, the ‘girls’ spend their days outdoors chasing tasty bugs, taking dust baths and enjoying the tasty raspberry leaves we feed them from the garden.

Lemon-Almond Fruit Crisp Topping

Our signature fruit crisp topping, freshened up for summer with fresh lemon, plus ground almonds, organic sugar and sweet butter.

Squash Blossoms

Along with summer squash season come these dainty, edible orange flowers perfect for frying!

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes lemons, blueberries, mixed red cherry and red grape tomatoes, mixed summer squash, slicing cucumbers, mini white cucumbers, yellow fingerling potatoes, tri-color beans, Walla Walla sweet onions and red radishes. Also: Spigariello leaf broccoli and Italian Bietole chard, which are wonderful paired together; just sauté with garlic, olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar to finish.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of Treviso radicchio, spicy salad mix and speckly, crunchy baby summer lettuces.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian and curly parsley, uncured green garlic, shallots, savory and Mojito mint.
