What’s In the Box? July 28 – August 3

Sun-Ripened
No matter how you pronounce it, the word ‘tomato’ practically sings of summer, as well it should as the vine-ripened beauties are now ready to be plucked from the vine—and headed straight for your box. Thus, this week’s delivery pays homage to the ripe, juicy tomato with the first of the heirloom varieties and a bevy of complementary ingredients like Pain au Levain bread, farm-fresh eggs, Tomme-style sheep’s cheese and summery basil, plus other seasonal produce like cucumbers, fennel, fava beans and ripe apricots. So, uncork a bottle of wine, peruse a few recipes and enjoy these bright and beautiful summer favorites to their fullest.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Steel Wheel Farm Heirloom Tomatoes

One of the true hallmarks of midsummer here in the Northwest, the juicy, sweet and incredibly luscious heirloom tomatoes have arrived. (And we’ve got plenty of recipe ideas for you on how to best enjoy these summer favorites this week!)

Pain au Levain

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Ravoire et Fils 2021 Domaine des Bellugues Rosé Mediterranée

Made by a small family estate named for the fireflies that live around the vineyard (bellegues means “spark”), this French rosé is bursting with fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, bright acidity.

Harmony Fields Tomme-Style Sheep’s Milk Cheese

This Tomme-style sheep’s milk cheese from Bow-based Harmony Fields is defined by its buttery texture and nutty flavor. Aged on the farm, it derives its distinctive grassy overtones from the Skagit pasturelands and is a perfect complement to tart jams, honey and herb-based poultry dishes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fresh Organic Greens

Cegolaine and Little Gem mini Romaine lettuces.

Summer Apricots

Gorgeous ripe apricots.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes cauliflower, Steel Wheel Farm Bolero carrots and Chioggia beets, fava beans, mixed summer squash, English cucumber, red radishes, scallions and fennel.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, basil, oregano, mint and rosemary from the herb garden at Bella Luna.

Edible Flowers

Add a subtle peppery spice to salads with these bright and cheery edible nasturtium flowers!
