Summering in France
Cool, classic and colorful, Salade Niçoise is the hallmark of summer in France, layered with fresh, crisp produce, creamy hard-boiled eggs and briny accents like Niçoise olives and protein-rich tuna. This week’s box celebrates the summer staple with local and imported ingredients to create your own version, plus a plethora of summery herbs and compound herb butter, a bright Rosé and beautiful local blueberries and cherries.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Salade Niçoise Kit

This protein-rich salad from Provence balances the best in summer produce with a classic French trio of salty anchovies, black olives and tuna. This week, we’ve included the ingredients to craft your own version of Julia Child’s classic recipe—see below:

Imported Spanish Arroyabe Tuna

Rich in Omega-3 and hand-packed in traditional style with olive oil.

Provençal Black Olives

Robust, fruity and marinated in grassy olive oil.

Imported Delicias Capers

Briny and salty—the perfect endnote to this week’s salad!

Fresh Whole-Grain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite local bakeries, this healthy round loaf is made from locally produced Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds. It pairs beautifully with this week’s salad—simply slice and serve with compound butter!

Le Charmel Côtes de Provence Rosé

This estate wine is produced near Bandol, France along the Mediterranean coast. The grapes are cultivated on picturesque Provençal hillsides with clay and limestone soils, manually picked, hand-sorted, and fully de-stemmed on site. The nose boasts beautiful aromas of raspberries and wild flowers and the palate is wonderfully bright and fresh with notes of strawberry and pear.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green, perfect for this week’s salad. With the long warm days of summer, the “girls” spend their days outdoors chasing tasty bugs, taking dust baths, and enjoying the healthy greens and raspberry leaves we feed them from the garden.

Compound Herb Butter

Made from organic sweet butter, shallots, fleur de sel and seasonal herbs.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes green beans, black cherry tomatoes and baby red potatoes for this week’s salad, plus Crookneck squash, sweet red peppers, fennel, Hakurei turnips, fresh pearl onions, scallions, red radishes, and baby cabbage. Also included: Lemons, ripe blueberries and Hartland cherries.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of peppercress, Little Gem baby romaine, frisée, and baby speckly crunchy lettuce.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown flat leaf parsley, red basil, Genovese basil, thyme, French tarragon, lavender flowers, and shallots from the walled garden at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Bouquet

Beautiful, fragrant sweet peas from the garden.
