What’s In The Box? June 11-17

JUNE 11-17

Spring into Summer
This week’s box pays homage to the best spring ingredients—crunchy radishes, milky turnips and a bevy of fresh citrus—while looking forward to summer with the likes of crisp baby Romaine lettuce and fresh garden herbs. Take these and then have fun experimenting in the kitchen with all the additional provisions for a seasonal, summery brunch: Skagit River Ranch breakfast sausage patties, whole barley, housemade pear butter, Gruyère cheese bread and both chicken and duck eggs to scramble, poach or fry as you please!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Skagit River Ranch Breakfast Sausage

With a flavor profile that includes hints of sweet maple syrup and savory spices, these incredible breakfast sausage patties are made from all-natural pork raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley.

Whole Barley

Barley is one of the world’s oldest cultivated crops, domesticated in Southwest Asia more than 10,000 years ago. Pleasantly firm and chewy, this vitamin-and-fiber-packed barley has a rich flavor and a mild sweetness, and pairs well in a breakfast bowl along with Cara Cara orange slices, dried fruit or apples!

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Lange Estate Winery Pinot Gris

This fresh and bright Oregon white is cold fermented in stainless steel tanks for ten months before bottling. The bouquet shows rich fruits, ripe pears and apples, with lush passionfruit and citrus layers on the palate, and is well balanced for everyday drinking.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, or strutting around their enclosure on sunny ones, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Duck Eggs

With near-transparent egg whites and color-rich oversize yolks, these local duck eggs are a chef’s dream, lending flavorful appeal to a variety of dishes.

Pear Butter

Fragrant with warming spices like cinnamon, this housemade spread highlights the mellow, sweet flavors of orchard-picked Bella Luna pears.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Baby red and green Romaine lettuces, arugula and spinach, plus rainbow Swiss chard.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Hakurei turnips, German Butterball potatoes, French Breakfast radishes, green onions and red beets, plus pink grapefruit, Meyer lemons, and Cara Cara oranges.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, sage, golden oregano and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
