What’s In The Box? June 12-18

Father’s Day Grilling
This week’s box is filled with all the fixings for a grand cook-out, from a colorful side salad with roasted vegetables to savory-smoky spice rub for seasoning your favorite cut of meat, fish or even produce on the grill. Kick things off with a gorgeous antipasto collection including fresh giardiniera, olive tapenade and milky Jersey Tomme cheese. Then, break out the baguette bread, fire up the grill, and pop open a full-bodied Italian wine to toast to dear ol’ Dad.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

House-Blend Grill Rub
& Garlic-Herb Compound Butter

Everything you need to get grilling! Made with a mixture of savory spices including garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt, try our house-blend rub on chicken, beef or fish. Finish up your dish with a pat of our garlic-herb butter crafted from sweet butter, parsley, shallots, fleur de sel and fresh garlic.

Roasted Vegetable Salad

This colorful salad pairs beautifully with your favorite protein off the grill; made with carrots, cauliflower, Romanesco broccoli, red peppers, onions, leeks and fresh herbs in a flavorful garlic and chive vinaigrette.

Red & White Quinoa Salad

Crafted with nutty, earthy quinoa, our housemade salad is bright with fresh herbs, onions, hearty garbanzo beans and Italian sun-dried tomatoes.

‘Fontanafredda Gia’ Langhe Rosso

The estate of Fontanafredda is located in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the top communes of Barolo in Piedmont. This came to be in 1858, when the King of Sardinia fell in love with a commoner, the daughter of a drum major within his court. He took her as his mistress, later married her and gave her this 130-acre parcel of land, making her the Countess of Fontanafredda. Twenty years later their son, the new Count of Fontanafredda started the family business which brings us today’s lovely wine. Comprised of the traditional Piedmontese grapes, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto, this wine selected by sommelier Yashar Shayan of Impulse Wine is a beautiful expression of the truffle ladened and varied soils of Northwest Italy. It is a great example of a great wine from Piedmont without the heavy duty tannins of a Barolo. You won’t have to age this one for 20 years before enjoying it, and it’s perfectly food-friendly, with characteristics of liquorice, dried cherries, black plums, truffles and quince.

Housemade Mixed Vegetable Giardiniera

Our take on the classic Italian relish is crafted from a medley of pickled vegetables including sliced carrots, Romanesco broccoli, cauliflower, celery and sweet onions. Pair with our olive tapenade, grilled baguette bread and Jersey Tomme for a fresh, summery antipasto platter.

Housemade Olive Tapenade

Finely chopped Kalamata olives, seasoned with salty capers, anchovies, grassy, high-quality olive oil and fresh basil.

Baguette Bread

Baked just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this classic French loaf has a wonderfully crisp crust, making it a perfect fit for the grill—simply slice, brush with olive oil, sprinkle on the salt and pepper, and grill to your liking!

Jersey Tomme Cheese

Made in our in-house creamery, this Alpine-style cheese is crafted with raw whole milk and extra cream from pasture-fed Jersey cows from the Dungeness Valley and aged in our cave for four months, lending to a delightfully fresh, rich taste.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying these long June days, spending most of their time outside their coop chasing bugs and eating all of the tasty green weeds we pull from the garden. They are also often spotted happily stretching their wings and settling down into the straw to nap and enjoy the warmth of the sun!

Fresh Local Strawberries

The first crop of juicy, luscious strawberries has arrived from Picha Farms in nearby Puyallup!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Tokyo Market turnips from Local Roots Farms, crunchy carrots from Bright Ide Acres in Snohomish, plus Butterfinger fingerling potatoes, leeks and asparagus.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A mixture of Samantha oakleaf, Speckled Amish heirloom lettuces and mizuna from Local Roots Farms; baby spinach from Willie Greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Local Roots Farms’ mint; fresh shallots, Italian parsley, garlic and thyme from our Walled Garden at Bella Luna Farms.
