What’s In The Box? June 17-23

Summer Solstice
The longest and lightest day of the year is upon us this week, which (hopefully!) means the days of sun-soaked afternoons, leisurely evenings and produce-filled meals on the patio are officially here. Fittingly, this week we’ve captured the tastes of early summer, from juicy strawberries and edible flowers to locally-foraged mushrooms and beautiful garden greens. Also included in this bright lineup: Cainspring Mills Expresso bread flour, buttery Castelvetrano olives and farm-fresh eggs, plus a bevy of fragrant herbs. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Locally Foraged Mushrooms

Enjoy two beautiful varieties of mushrooms this week! The black Morels are only available in the wild, developing a cult following of local ‘mushroom hunters’ who roam our forests looking for this treat of nature. Woodsy and earthy, yet delicate and rich, they are an excellent accompaniment to roasted vegetables, risottos and pastas. Then, also enjoy the rich and sweet Nebrodini mushrooms found in your box: A relative of the Trumpet Royale, these large firm mushrooms boast a beautiful vase shape and a color ranging from ivory to glistening white. (Hint: They are fantastic grilled; see recipes for details!)

Castelvetrano Olives

These Sicilian green olives are famous for their gorgeous color, irresistible buttery-sweet flavor and crisp, meaty texture.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

“Les Petites Sardines” Muscadet Sèvre Et Maine Sur Lie

This flagship French Muscadet blend from Vignerons du Pallet shows terrific cut and serves as a fine representation of the appellation as a whole. The nose, dominated by the fresh aromas brought by the sea spray of the Atlantic, also has light floral notes. The wine is characterized by its finesse and has a slight pearliness that is pleasant on the palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of cream, beige and brown.

Cairnspring Mills Whole Grain Expresso Bread Flour

This Burlington-based company is rediscovering the heart and soul of flour-making by producing small-batch, responsibly-grown flours made solely from wheat grown in the Pacific Northwest. This earthy and rustic flour is perfect for baking recipes that call for whole wheat flour.

Baking Yeast

The all-important ingredient to help produce fluffy bread!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem lettuce, peppery arugula greens, Swiss chard and Lacinato kale.

Seasonal Fruit

Enjoy more ripe, juicy, locally-grown strawberries this week!

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes Walla walla sweet onions, Hakurei turnips, pac choi, Pink Beauty radishes and asparagus.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Apple mint, thyme, oregano, sage and rosemary from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery edible flowers to add color and spice to your salads.
