What’s In The Box? June 18-24

Father’s Day Cookout
Fire up the barbecue and celebrate dear old dad this week with a summery menu starring flavor-packed, all-natural bratwurst sausages to throw on the grill, plus Beecher’s smoked Flagship cheese and housemade smoky baked beans to serve alongside. These cookout classics are also accented by a bevy of fresh produce like mixed heirloom cherry tomatoes, Romanesco and purple scallions, plus fresh-baked Pain au Levain bread, F&L raspberry vinaigrette and our signature summer fruit cake mix. To Dad!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. Make these flavorful, all-natural pork sausages the star of your Father’s Day feast by serving them hot off the grill and topped with a slice of melty smoked cheese.

Beecher’s Smoked Flagship Cheese

Fifteen months of aging nurtures the flavor and texture of this cheese from Pike Place Market’s own Beecher’s to perfection; the cheese is then naturally smoked over a distinctive blend of apple and cherry wood, resulting in the Flagship’s signature robust and nutty flavor.

Housemade BBQ Beans

Our take on the American classic, these slow-simmered beans are spiced with ketchup, mustard and just a touch of brown sugar.

Pain au Levain

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

La Fiera Soave

Crafted from 80-percent Garganega grapes, plus 10-percent each of Trebbiano and Chardonnay, this lovely white wine features fresh aromas of pears and apples with mineral complexities on a bright, clean palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Summer Fruit Cake Mix

Crafted from our own signature recipe, this quick and easy cake mix bakes up moist and delicious when simply mixed with eggs and diced summer fruit or berries—see recipes for details (it’s also wonderful baked as an upside down cake)!

Raspberry Vinaigrette

A light, refreshing blend of raspberries, Champagne vinegar, fresh ground pepper and a hint of local honey, this housemade vinaigrette is fantastic drizzled over roasted beets!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Frisée, Little Gem baby green and Truchas baby red Romaine lettuces, plus a mix of microgreens that includes cilantro, amaranth and pea shoots.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Romanesco, heirloom mixed cherry tomatoes, snow peas, Morel mushrooms, Hakurei turnips, Pink Beauty radishes, purple scallions, green onions and Chioggia beets, plus Meyer lemons. Also included: Certified organic Apriums and summer squash from our friends at Tonnemaker Farm.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, thyme, mint and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
