What’s In The Box? June 18-24

Father’s Day Cookout
Fire up the barbecue and gather round to celebrate dear old dad this week with a summery menu highlighted by a grilled bratwurst sandwich on rye. Topped with tangy and bold local mustard, plus grilled Walla Walla sweet onions, this classic sammie is complemented by fresh salad greens, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and housemade pickled cauliflower. Also: Whip up a tart-sweet apricot galette to finish off the meal.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst—simply grill, then layer with grilled Walla Walla sweet onions and a slathering of classic brown mustard in a dad-friendly sandwich on toasted rye bread.

Rye Bread

This dense, flavorful loaf is baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish with medium-grain rye flour and light caraway seed.

Mustard and Co. Classic Mustard

Crafted in small batches at this local company’s South Park shop, the classic spicy brown spread is composed of fresh-ground and raw mustard seed, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and Jacobsen Salt Co. sea salt.

Pickled Cauliflower

A wonderful starter or snack, our housemade cauliflower is pickled in vinegar and seasoned with fresh garden herbs.

Airfield Estates Sauvignon Blanc

Light-bodied, dry, and refreshing, this wine from Yakima Valley’s Airfield Estates lights up your taste buds with flavors of zesty lemon-lime. Well balanced with bright acidity, it sparks a clean, crisp finish that pairs perfectly with salads.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of longer and warmer days, the “girls” are enjoying long afternoons in the sun, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Fresh Apricots

With a beautiful red blush color, these beauties are the new ‘Orangered’ variety of apricot, grown at Ponderosa Orchards near Wenatchee.

Galette Dough

Crafted from organic ingredients including all-purpose flour, sugar and organic butter, this housemade pastry dough adapted from a beloved Alice Waters recipe bakes up light and crisp, with a smooth buttery taste that pairs well with fresh apricots

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Walla Walla sweet onions, baby German Butterball potatoes, sugar snap peas, red and Chioggia beets, French breakfast radishes, Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, celery and golden cherry tomatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of peppercress and purslane, plus Little Gem and speckly crunchy baby lettuces.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian parsley, garlic scapes, shallots, mint and tarragon from the walled garden at Bella Luna.

Borage Flowers

With vivid blue flowers, this beautiful garden herb boasts a flavor reminiscent of cucumber. Scatter the flowers over a crisp salad for a fresh and colorful touch!
