What’s In The Box? June 25 – July 1

Here’s to Summer
Cherries! Mint! Little Gem Lettuce! Yes, summer—and some of its most treasured crops—truly has arrived here in the Northwest. Accented by other seasonal favorites such as Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, purple scallions and mini green cabbage, this fresh lineup will fill you up all week long, also including multigrain bread, organic emmer farro from Winthrop’s Bluebird Grain Farm and edible flowers to add color and spice to your summer salads. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Bluebird Grain Farm Organic Whole Grain Emmer Farro

This ancient hulled wheat from Bluebird Grain Farm in Winthrop, Washington features a sweet, full-bodied flavor, chewy texture and high nutritional value—over 16-percent protein! It makes for a fabulous pilaf to serve alongside grilled veggies, or give it the star treatment in a crisp and satisfying grain salad (see recipes for a summery favorite).

F&L Chicken Stock

Our housemade chicken stock is crafted from Bella Luna chickens and slow-simmered for hours with fresh herbs, cracked pepper and just a dash of sea salt.

Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy fresh-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Domaine de la Prébende Beaujolais Rosé

Fertilized with natural compost on 7 acres of land in Beaujolais and fermented naturally, this fresh and snappy rosé crafted by the Dupeuble family is harmonic, delectable and just right for summer sipping.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Escarole, Swiss chard and mixed microgreens, plus Truchas baby Romaine and Little Gem lettuces.

Summer Cherries

Ripe and juicy, the first local cherries have arrived!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, cauliflower, mini green cabbage, purple scallions, Pink Beauty radishes, Morel mushrooms, Paris Market carrots and Hakurei turnips.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Mint, cilantro, rosemary and sage from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery edible flowers to add color and spice to your salads.
