What’s In The Box? June 4-10

Spring’s Bounty
From crisp radishes and snap peas to the first cherries of the season, our beautiful spring continues in abundance, celebrated this week with a rustic heirloom bean dish topped by Italian sausage, pea vines and green garlic scapes. Share your bounty with loved ones, adding a bold Tempranillo, vibrant salad greens and sweet cherry clafoutis dessert to finish the fresh-tasting meal.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Vero Matera Perline Beans

Similar in style to a cannellini bean, this petite heirloom varietal is grown amidst the grain fields in the southern region of Basilicata in Italy. Hearty, rich and smooth, the creamy beans are wonderful topped with Italian sausage, then sautéed pea vines and green garlic scapes.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable sausage adds a savory note to this week’s main dish.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite bakeries, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Finca La Mata Tempranillo Ribera del Duero

Spain’s Ribera del Duero is known for using the traditional Tempranillo grape to turn out a style of red wine which is bold and intense—The Finca La Mata received 90 point scores, across the board, from Wine Enthusiast, Wine Spectator, and Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar. With dense color and big bodied lushness, this Tempranillo is loaded with savory smoky notes, rich and dark berries, dark chocolate and vanilla with hints of nutmeg and paprika.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of longer and warmer days, the “girls” are enjoying long afternoons in the sun, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Housemade Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, parsley, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt and black pepper.

Clafoutis Batter

Just add cherries! Crafted from organic sugar, milk, vanilla and Bella Luna Farms eggs, our housemade mix perfectly finishes this rustic, custardy French dessert.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Lacinato kale, plus green garlic scapes, Shunkyo radishes, German Butterball potatoes, pea vines and snap peas from Local Roots Farm. Also: Local Bing cherries!

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of red Rumex greens and baby red Romaine from Bella Luna and Speckled Amish butter lettuce from One Leaf Farm.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian parsley, thyme, garlic and shallots from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Bouquet

A wonderfully fragrant bunch of stock flowers for your table.
