What’s In The Box? June 5 – 11

Italian Flavor & Flair
The provisions in this week’s box embrace the robust, sun-kissed flavors of an Italian summer: A spicy Puttanesca pasta sauce crafted from garden-fresh tomatoes, plus an antipasto trio of earthy marinated mushrooms with thyme and roasted red peppers, Ligurian olives and rustic crostini. Pair these with a mixed green salad topped with our garlic-lemon vinaigrette, a crisp, refreshing sparkling wine and kick back with your first taste of summer. (Don’t forget to return any extra bags and baskets; just set them out with your box for us to collect!)

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Lagana Foods’ Fresh Lumache Pasta

Created by local superstar chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington, Lagana Foods’ pastas are hand-crafted using semolina flour, water and Old-World bronze dies to give the dough an intentionally rough surface, letting this week’s spicy red sauce get a better grip on each elegant piece of snail-shaped pasta.

Housemade Puttanesca Sauce

Simmered with anchovies, olives and red pepper flakes, our housemade red sauce is crafted from garden-fresh tomatoes and fragrant garlic, adding a savory, salty-spicy kick to this week’s pasta.

Marinated Mushrooms

This housemade mixture of earthy local mushrooms is marinated in high-quality olive oil, fresh thyme and roasted red peppers—a wonderful start to an stunning antipasto platter.

Imported Ligurian Olives

Also known as the Taggiasca, these olives are grown and harvested in the coastal Liguria region of north-western Italy. Sweet and nutty with a firm flesh, they are excellent for both pastas and snacking!

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this airy, rustic loaf makes for great oven-crisp crostini to pair with our marinated mushrooms and Ligurian olives—just brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub with a fresh-cut clove of garlic before toasting.

Schoenheitz Cremant d’Alsace Sparkling Brut

Schoenheitz is a smaller family owned winery in the village of Alsace, France, on the German border. There, they produce wonderful white wines, using traditional grapes and techniques, such as this Cremant selected by sommelier Yashar Shayan of Impulse Wine. A Cremant is a French sparkling wine, made in the traditional Champagne style, but not made in the Champagne region of France. This one is made using 90% Pinot Auxerrois and 10% Pinot Blanc, both grapes being fairly unique to this region. It’s aged for 24 months on lees prior to final bottling, giving it a very rich, creamy, texture and a nose of lemon custard, and freshly baked brioche. The palate is dry and minerally with hints of dehydrated golden delicious apples. Its refreshing effervescence and crisp acidity make this Cremant perfect for a warm sunny day.

Reserve Vecchio Cheese

With a rich, full flavor similar to Grana, our handcrafted mixed goat and cow milk cheese is aged for over two years. Grate over this week’s pasta for a creamy, smooth finish!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long days, spending most of their time outside their coop chasing bugs and eating all of the tasty green weeds we pull from the garden. They are also often spotted happily stretching their wings and settling down into the straw to nap and enjoy the warmth of the sun!

Garlic-Lemon Vinaigrette

Our housemade salad dressing, bright with olive oil, garlic, a touch of fresh lemon juice, honey, and white wine vinegar.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Shunkyo radishes, red onions, Romanesco broccoli, and asparagus.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Spicy salad mix, frisée, Flashy Trout’s Back baby lettuce, baby red romaine lettuce and arugula from Local Roots Farm.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh parsley, rosemary, thyme, garlic and shallots from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna Farms.

Abeego Wrap

Created from pure beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin infused into a fabric made of hemp and certified organic cotton, Abeego wraps are malleable at room temperature, then stiffen and hold shape when chilled. Yours to keep, re-use this innovative food storage product time and time again!
