What’s In The Box? March 18-24

Taco Night
Spice things up with this week’s taco-themed box, which comes complete with Skagit River Ranch’s signature chorizo sausage, locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas and Samish Bay queso fresco cheese. Top your tacos with a flavorful, lime-kissed cucumber slaw (see recipes for details!), serve with a side of smoky beans or cilantro-lime rice, pour yourself a mojito—and you’ve got the makings of a Southwestern-style feast. Also included: Multigrain bread, farm-fresh eggs and seasonal produce like pea shoots, carrots and parsnips, plus Mexican chocolate and vanilla bean marshmallows to help you craft a delicious baked apple dessert. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful, all-natural pork sausage from our friends at Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley makes for fantastic taco filling—simply sauté, stuff into a warm tortilla and top with crisp cucumber slaw and crumbled queso fresco!

Patty Pan Cooperative Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

The locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas from this Shoreline-based worker-owned coop are crafted from just four stellar ingredients: Olive oil, salt, water and organic flour from Cairnspring Mills located in the Skagit Valley.

Tamales

Also from Patty Pan Cooperative, these tamales feature heirloom white corn masa imported from Oaxaca, Mexico. To prepare, simply steam and then enjoy alongside a taco!

Cornmeal

Finely-milled cornmeal for all your needs.

Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Mojitos

Cheers! Enjoy a hand-crafted mojito made from white rum, club soda, mint and fresh lime juice.

Samish Bay Queso Fresco

This certified-organic, 200-acre dairy farm in Skagit County produces gorgeous artisan cheeses crafted from the milk of their herd of Milking Shorthorn cows. This particular soft cheese is crafted in the traditional Latin American style, and is not only great on tacos, but crumbled on salads, too!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Handmade Vanilla Bean Marshmallows & Mexican Chocolate

End your night on a sweet note by baking apples filled with this bittersweet, cinnamon-kissed chocolate and topped with a light and fluffy ‘mallow. (See recipes for details.)

Seasonal Organic Greens

Spring pea shoots!

Dried Mayocoba Beans

See this week’s recipes for our foolproof method to cooking up a pot of delightfully-smoky beans to serve alongside your tacos.

Dried Chili Peppers

Turn up the heat with these locally-grown Guajillo and New Mexico chili peppers, which both possess an earthy, sweet flavor and just a touch of crisp, clean heat.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes jalapeño peppers, carrots, beets, cucumber, baby red potatoes, parsnips, purple sprouting broccoli and Walla Walla sweet onions, plus Pink Lady apples, Cara Cara oranges and limes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, shallots and cilantro from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
