Whats in the Box? March 20 – 26

In addition to our own provisions from Bella Luna Farms, we love introducing you to local, regional and national food producers who are also dedicated to using fresh, seasonal ingredients. This week we have incorporated a few favorite discoveries into your box, from fresh, “little bell” pasta by Seattle’s Lagana Foods to Italian sausage straight out of Sedro-Wooley. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Fresh Lagana Foods Campanelle Pasta

Created by local superstar chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington, Lagana Foods’ pastas are hand-crafted using semolina flour, water and Old-World bronze dies to give the dough an intentionally rough surface, letting the sauce get a better grip on each elegant piece of bell-shaped pasta.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on this ranch in Sedro-Wooley roam outdoors to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, the resulting sausage adds a satisfying note to this week’s specialty pasta.

Big Spoon Roasters Peanut Butter

Not your average peanut butter, this handcrafted nut butter from North Carolina’s Big Spoon Roasters strikes the perfect balance: fresh-roasted peanuts are mixed with a touch of honey and sea salt, then blended with a few drops of organic coconut oil to create a smooth, truly addictive texture.

Spicy Tomato-Carrot Soup

Packed with fresh, ripe tomatoes, crunchy carrots, garlic and herbs, this chunky soup is simmered in our housemade chicken stock base for a deep, rich flavor.

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this light, airy loaf is great freshly warmed from the oven—the trick to a great crispy crust is to brush a little water on top before reheating!

2011 Château de Montfaucon Côtes du Rhône

Located just north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in France, the Château de Montfaucon winery crafts their Côtes du Rhône to express the intense fruit characteristics of the appellation, highlighted in 2011 by an extended Indian summer. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan, this suave drinking wine has been fermented and aged in concrete tanks for 18 months.

Reserve Veccio Cheese

This week, we bring you our favorite aged offering from our in-house creamery: Veccio cheese. A mix of cow and goat milk that is aged in our cave for over 12 months, this reserve blend is wonderful grated over pasta, or enjoyed with dried fruit and a drizzle of honey for dessert.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of spring, the girls are enjoying the longer stretches of sunshine, happily stretching their wings and settling down into the straw to nap and enjoy the warmth of the sun!

Roasted Parsnips

Freshly-roasted parsnips and shallots dressed with olive oil, thyme, parsley and just a touch of balsamic vinegar.

Housemade Spicy Pickled Cauliflower

A delightful blend of pickled cauliflower florets, zippy green peppercorns, white wine vinegar, and capers—this is one addictive snack!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s selection also includes red onions, leeks, red cabbage, cauliflower, kale raab, rhubarb and organic red potatoes.

Organic Mixed Greens

Spring greens salad mix, fava leaves and baby spinach—enjoy sautéed in pasta, or served in a salad!

Fresh Garden Herbs

French thyme, garlic, shallots, parsley and sweet bay leaf from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna Farms.
