What’s In The Box? March 21-27

Spring Fresh
Could it be? Spring is (finally!) in the air and now it’s on the table, too, as this week’s lineup is bursting with the first tastes of the season—from pea shoots and pungent herbs to verdant veggies like leeks, fennel and broccolini. Also starring beautiful dried favas and spicy, all-natural Chorizo sausage to craft your own fresh, flavorful pot of beans, this box springs to life with mixed organic mushrooms, our signature crème fraîche and nutty Gruyère cheese bread all to use alongside. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork. It makes for a spicy and savory addition to a pot of this week’s fava beans—see recipes for details!

Nash’s Dried Diana Fava Beans

Packed with fiber and protein, these nutrient-rich dried beans hail from Nash’s Organic Produce farm in Dungeness, Washington.

Organic Local Mushrooms

This week’s box also includes a chef’s mix of beautiful organic mushrooms cultivated by the lovely folks at Cascadia Mushrooms in Bellingham.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite bakeries, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven and served with a comforting bowl of beans—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Enate Tempranillo 2016

This Spanish wine boasts nuances of strawberry and liquorice which mingle playfully with red berries and cherries. The fusion of flavoursome tannins and fresh acidity brings about a smooth and well-rounded texture, which in turns leads to a creamy finish on the palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet, spring days, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Crème Fraîche

Crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream, our rich and silky crème fraîche adds a beautiful finishing touch to scrambled eggs, salad dressings and more.

Seasonal Fruit

Juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A mix of peppery arugula and spinach greens, plus the first of the spring pea shoots!

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes red-cored Chantenay carrots, parsnips, Lollipop radishes, leeks, fennel, broccolini and yellow onion.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Ginger, Italian parsley, garlic, rosemary and fresh thyme from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
