What’s In The Box? March 25-31

Full of Flavor
From Daikon radish and earthy Cremini and Shiitake mushrooms to organic beef and a vibrant, locally-crafted hot pepper sauce, this week’s lineup is chock-full of flavor—and just waiting for you to toss together in a stir-fry. Accented by other such sauté-ready produce as broccolini, Senposai greens and scallions, the colorful box also includes pumpernickel bread and black Dakota popcorn kernels; crack open that bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Beef Stir-Fry Meat

This all-natural beef is a flavorful accent to a stir-fry of bright spring veg—see recipes for details.

Spoon Full Farm Sun Sauce

Crafted from garlic, raw honey, San Juan Island sea salt and the farm’s signature Lady Han hot peppers, this hot sauce from Spoon Full Farm in Thorp, Washington, is fermented for three weeks to allow beneficial bacteria to break down the natural sugars, adding digestive enzymes and living nutrition—we love it dashed over a stir fry or mixed with mayo and added to sandwiches!

Shiitake & Cremini Mushrooms

This duo of locally-grown fungi will add earthy appeal to this week’s stir-fry supper.

Pumpernickel Bread

This slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish.

Cairnspring Mills Pastry Flour

This flour is crafted from the unique looking Cara Club wheat that thrives in the Skagit Valley and is known for its disease resistance. With a noticeable corn-like flavor, it is fantastic used in cakes, pies, pastries, biscuits and more.

Sharecropper Pinot Noir

The pale ruby Oregon Pinot opens on the nose with young berry, wet stone and fresh herbal notes and features light juicy cherry, and hints of smokiness on the palette, as well as super-soft tannins that linger on the medium finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Slanted Sun Farm Dakota Black Popcorn

These unique black-hued kernels from Everson, Washington’s own Slanted Sun Farm are certified organic and pop up light and nutty—perfect topped with sea salt and a drizzle of truffle oil!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Pea shoots and Senposai, which is a cross between Komatsuna (a Japanese mustard green) and regular cabbage.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Walla Walla sweet onions, scallions, Daikon radishes, broccolini, celery and German Butterball potatoes, plus Pink Lady apples, Cara Cara oranges and Meyer lemons.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian and curly parsley, shallots, garlic, ginger and thyme from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
