What’s In The Box? March 27 – April 7

This week, we nod to the fresh, vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean with a produce-packed menu that includes pickled vegetables, specialty olives, capers and baby artichoke hearts, as well as fresh feta cheese. Customize your own baked orzo dish and invite friends and family over to imbibe in our most favorite of traditions: Gathering around the table over good food and wine.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Baked Orzo Kit

Everything you need to make your own version of the classic Mediterranean baked dish, including orzo pasta, lemon infused olive oil and our own chicken stock. Just add your choice of Ligurian olives, capers, baby artichoke hearts or other produce to make it your own!

Lemon Chicken Soup

Made from Bella Luna Farms’ own chickens and housemade stock, this soup is light and refreshing, bursting with juicy Meyer lemons, couscous and fresh herbs.

Kalamata Olive Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this Kalamata olive loaf is great freshly warmed from the oven—the trick to a great crispy crust is to brush a little water on top before reheating!

Jean Médeville Château Fayau Bordeaux Blanc 2010

This crisp, white blend is lovingly crafted from grapes grown in the heritage vineyards that surround the picturesque Château Fayau in Bordeaux, France. With highlights of pear, grapefruit and fresh herbs, this well-balanced wine is right for drinking now—enjoy!

Feta Cheese

Creamy with just the right amount of tang, our housemade feta is crafted from a mix of Bella Luna goat and cow milks. Sprinkle this pungent, soft cheese over this week’s soup, or serve with Kalamata olive bread and pickled vegetables for a delightful appetizer.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of longer days, the girls have more time to enjoy all of the tasty dandelions and popweed we pull from the garden as they spend their days digging and scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run to find delectable bugs and worms!

Italian Ligurian Olives, Mediterranean Capers
& Baby Artichoke Hearts

This trio of Mediterranean classics is excellent mixed into this week’s baked orzo or enjoyed as part of an appetizer—brined in olive oil and fresh herbs, the smooth, meaty texture of these olives and artichoke hearts make them incredibly versatile.

Housemade Pickled Vegetables

Pickled cauliflower, fire roasted sweet red peppers, carrots and pearl onions with garlic, oregano and parsley—it’s the ultimate crunchy snack.

Garlic Chive Vinaigrette

Our housemade dressing, bright with olive oil, garlic chives, a touch of fresh lemon and white wine vinegar.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s selection also includes red onions, leeks, bunch carrots, Easter Egg radishes, broccolini, and Yukon Gold potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Romaine lettuce and baby spinach—try topping a mixture of both greens with our garlic vinaigrette, feta and thinly sliced red onion!

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, garlic, thyme, rosemary, shallots and oregano from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna Farms.
