What’s In The Box? May 13-19

Mediterranean Feast
From asparagus and French radishes to chive blossoms and crisp Little Gem and Cegolaine lettuces, this week’s box is a beautiful display of spring’s best offerings. Use these provisions and more to help craft a delicious Mediterranean-inspired feast, with ingredients for a satisfying baked orzo, plus gorgeous sheep’s milk feta cheese, fresh oregano, sweet peppers and crisp cucumbers, all to go alongside in a salad. This refreshing lineup also features sliced multigrain bread, farm-fresh eggs and our housemade lemon polenta cake mix, so that you can enjoy each and every bite this box has to offer.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Orzo Pasta

With its petite, rice-like shape, this pasta pairs beautifully with chicken stock and your choice of produce for a hearty main course.

Sliced Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Auspicion Sauvignon Blanc

Bright and lively with tropical fruit flavors and a hint of banana, this wine is crisp and refreshing, exuding the true spirit of California Sauvignon Blanc.

Harmony Fields Sheep’s Milk Feta

This sirene-style white brine cheese from Harmony Fields situated in the Skagit Valley is made from 100-percent sheep’s milk. Similar to Greek feta with a tart, lemony finish, it has a creamier texture than most feta, with a touch of saltiness that pairs perfectly with salads.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Lemon Olive Oil Polenta Cake Mix

This light and moist cake is a family favorite and boasts a wonderful texture thanks to the inclusion of polenta. Try it for dessert, topped with your choice of fresh berries and a generous dollop of crème fraîche or whipped cream.

Kalamata Olives & Capers

Perfect for adding a Mediterranean flair to any dish!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Radish microgreens and mustard greens, plus Little Gem and Cegolaine lettuces.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes cauliflower, French radishes, turnips, asparagus, Walla Walla sweet onions, cucumbers and sweet mini peppers in a mix of colors, plus Meyer lemons and Cara Cara oranges.

Chive Blossoms

This week, enjoy one of our favorite spring ingredients: Lilac-hued chive blossoms. These beautiful flowers are especially versatile—incorporate them into a bright vinegar for salad dressings, toss into your Meditteranean salad as a finishing touch, or add them into a delightful-cheesy tray of scalloped potatoes!

Fresh Garden Herbs

Apple mint, parsley, oregano and garlic from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
